After Market Steering Wheel

Anyone using an after market steering wheel. Thinking of changing mine. If so, got any pics?

I have a lecarra, I think. It came with the truck when I bought it. I've read that when you install an aftermarket wheel you may not be able to have the horn work, but mine does. I don't really know what mod was done to make it work. It's a 14" wheel and it's a little small. The OEM gauges are hidden behind the wheel and I have to move my head around to check engine temperature, etc. I've seen a 16" wheel available, called "RV special", and it's on my list of things to get...

Yea, I have one. I'll try to post a pic later on this evening. My OEM wheel was crap when I bought the truck (I'm the 3rd owner).

Thanks guys! I'm thinking of going for a Grant but don't want the same visual problem as 2mbb.

That would be great to see the pictures of the style and fit.

Mine's ok, but getting "soft" or "loose", not sure how to desribe it. Happens from years of sitting out in the sun.

Was thinking about having it professionally recovered but this might be a good alternative

I have a Grant on mine, try to get a pic later. It is a little small for seeing the gauges but the horn works fine.

You might consider trying a Wheel Skins cover. Wheelskins - The World's Finest Genuine Leather Motoring Accessories, Steering Wheel Covers, Driving Gloves and Shift Boots

The cover on my OEM steering wheel was feeling a bit loose and squishy as a poster above described it. The Wheel Skins cover tightened it right up and has been very durable. It has a nice look and feel to it.

Yep! That's the way I was thinking of going.

I had one on my 87 Vette and it felt like a new custom wheel.

They feel great, fit well and really make a difference. Evenh make it feel a bit thicker since it's going over the stocker which really helps with vibration dampening and overall driving feel on the road.

If I go this way, I'll have the local auto upholstery guy do it.

Watched him do one on a vette recently. He actually sanded the wheel, smoothed it with some sort of filler and then installed it like a second skin.

Look and feel was outstanding!

Here is mine. It's a LeCara? I think, anyway here it is. I does block the gauges a bit but I am used to it now.

These are great!

I have one of these and the look and feel is fantastic. It looks like a brand new wheel. The feel is nice too. Many of my friends have noticed it too.

I have an autotechnica wood steering wheel, along with a matching shifter, that were installed prior to my purchase. I love them both-the wheel is about 14". Driving my bro in laws 62 with stock components makes me especially appreciate them. My horn works intermittently, which is annoying.
A photo would be included, but some genius deleted the photo software from our computer and I haven't figured out how to get it reinstalled as the disc is missing.

I have a Lecarra- as the others have said it is a little small but you do get used to it. Its not that big a deal for me as my stock guages are just back ups to my aftermarket guages. I like the wheel alot.

Here is the wheel

Here is my guage setup

I have a grant. It's nice to hold onto. It's smaller diameter quickens steering but blocks the speedo a bit. I think i'm going to paint the center flat black as it reflects back at me on sunny days

Does the Lecarra hub that says it fits years 76-88 work for the 60? I thought i had heard earlier that they had no hubs for the 60s. But obviously they had something since there are pics on here!

When I bought it, an old lecarra was on it. I winged it and bought the new wheel and it fit. I bet they have one that would still work.

Why not try to find a used OEM, I used to have a grant in an older pickup. I really liked it, but the Cruiser has made me a purest.
