Dash Lights inop....

1985 FJ60

The lights for my speedometer cluster & climate controls do not operate at all. The dial to the left of the steering wheel spins & clicks, but does nothing for the dash lights or the overhead light.

Also, this may be unrelated, but when I turn my headlights on, the rear lamps do not come on. The brake lights come on when I hit the brakes & the turn signals flash as they should.

I have checked fuses.

Help?

Have you checked your fuses?

Hmmm. I know there's a different fuse for the tail lights than the brake lights, and there's a different fuse for the gauge lights than the HVAC lights, so I'm not sure.

Lightbulbs?

I doubt that they would all go out at once...

Is it possible there is a poblem with the dial?

Could be..you say your rear tail lamps and your cluster gage lights do not work right?

I'd check grounds, then power coming out from the parking light position on the head lamp switch...

Then power out of the dimmer switch...but that really should not effect the rear lamps...just the cluster...if this is the case may have two problems...

If no power in either place then you must trace back untill you find were the power loss is.

Are any of your parking lights working?

The tail lights and the cluster gauge lights share the same fuse (called the tail light fuse). Pull that fuse and replace it with one that is known to be good. If they still don't work, then pull the fuse and check for +12V supply to that fuse. If you have 12V supply, then maybe you don't have a ground. If you don't get +12V to the fuse, then check your tail light relay.
