I need to get another rig so I can do something like this to mine. It sucks having it as a daily driver.
Looks great!!

Are we getting fishy here?

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09

The drivers side is completely done! Feel free to flame my yellow bumpstops. I got the knuckle seal issue figured out. For some reason it got all wavy when I bolted it down (maybe wasn't lined up right). The passenger side will be done in a couple hours once the paint on my knuckles/steering/etc dries.

Aside from a couple of brake hoses that had to be special ordered, the front axle is DONE! I'm glad too, I was getting tired of messing with it. Setting all the bearing preloads, fishing out cone washers, blah blah blah.

So the front axle build:

Knuckle job (bearings, seals, etc)
Inner axle seals
Wheel bearings, hub seals and races
Cleaned and painted housing
3" medium duty leaf springs
Appropriately matched shocks
Extended swaybar endlinks
New tie rod ends
Steering cleaned and painted
New coiled breather hose
4runner calipers
New FJ rotors
New rubber brake hoses (the OE ones were shot)
1.25" wheel spacers
17" alloy wheels from 2007 4Runner
285/70/17 BFG A/T (temporary)
Lots of getting dirty...see before pics.

After I get the calipers plumbed, I'll be moving onto the rear axle. I'm thinking that will be much less time intensive.

Thanks Milo. I'm hoping I'll start on the rear this week/weekend. It shouldn't take as long considering all I'm going to do is clean it up, adjust brakes, new e-brake, and suspension. We'll see how that goes.

We gotta get you up here to tune that 2F!

Holy crap, how very interesting. Well, I typically use other means of backup stands and stay as far from under the vehicle as possible. I'll definitely keep that in mind though, thanks for the heads up!

Holy hell. I have a pair of 6t 'stands and never thought twice about them. I'll have to go look at them again!

Elliott, your truck is far too clean. Definitely not fair

That looks sweet with those wheels. I just did my knuckles back in May. Feels good when you have it done huh? Nice looking front end Elliott.

After messing with the excel spreadsheet of mods and $$$ spent so far I'm happy this hasn't been a huge hit to the wallet.

I could drop more than that just on building a front D60.

That's pretty good ... Usually it's much higher for the quality and quantity of work you've done..

BTW -- Did you get your seat covers from the wet Okole's website ? Which ones did you get? Too many choices.

I had to call them on the phone. They have a pattern code for the 60 series but it's not listed on the website.

Hi Elliott

I am finishing patching up my desmog, used a trollhole carb, and I wanted to know when you eliminated the PCV is the filter thing in the first pic hooked up to where the L shaped pipe comes out of the block for your pcv? Where did you get the filter, is it generic from a parts store?

Oh and what did you do with the hose coming off the hardline by the brake booster? These are the two last things I need to address and then it is on to body work. Thanks. Your 60 is looking great.

That is a generic filter that most auto parts stores should carry. As you can see, it is coming off of the elbow from the pushrod inspection cover. It's working great so far.

As for the line coming out by the brake booster, it is not connected to anything. However, to keep water from getting in there I ran a small length of hose that loops around and faces down.

Hope this helps.

Elliot you working on it tomorrow at all? I am at the GF's and would stop by if you were wrenching on it before I head to the shop to do more work.

I must admit... I've been slacking. I work long hours during the week and spend the weekends in Vail so wrenching time is a precious commodity. I'm going to button things up, bleed the brakes, and start working on the bumpers soon!

Tennis, swimming, hiking, drinking... Vail is awesome year round! I rode A-basin today and with the 60* weather it certainly didn't seem like October.

Waiting for new bellcranks to come in. I had to chop everything up to "disassemble" it. As you can see below.

I've been taking the time to undo everything from the frame (brake lines, fuel lines, etc) to sand it down and paint it with a rust preventative enamel. It's much like rust bullet, I've great success with it in the past but it's not cheap.

Hoping to have the rear axle completely done within the next 2 weeks! I need some serious motivation.
