Help me I think I have gone to far
Since I got my 60 back- I parked it and have been cleaning the frame and undercarriage. My first wipe with degreaser was like a drug- the frame was perfect. I have been spending the last 4 nights under the truck cleaning all of the grease and grime off. I was just going to treat with Amsoil Metal Protector, but it is so perfect I got eastwood chassis black and am going to tape off and paint this weekend. I will post before and after pictures. I also am treating the battery area where an old battery leaked and caused surface rust. I am painting that this evening. My question is , am I losing it and wasting my time?
Here is one frame shot so far

If my truck was that clean I would do the same. I don't think you've gone too far especially since I think you are going to keep her clean.

You my friend are a "Go Getter". That looks awesome. I dont think I would be able to do that. If it makes you happy then there is no "too far". There is no need for me to do it because it would be way out of character for my rig to have a clean uunderbelly and skin that looks like it got into a fight with a bucket full of hammers. I say keep it up, it looks great.

I have the same affliction. Every time I take something off my car that has the possability of being painted I do it. I went as far as repainting my readiator mounts when i took them out. It's my way of seeing the progress of going through and fixing the vehicle. Keep it up, we all have different levels of addiction to these beasts.

What the hell is that chain and crank thing hanging in place of the usual rusty hunk of crap that holds the spare tire up?!
Seriously... beautiful truck and great work.

You are doing good. When you clean up and paint, you are getting a good look at any potential problems and as Barney says "Nip it at the bud". I recently finished doing the wheel wells with Herculiner...talk about a messy job.

no mud inside the frame. My career as an undercarriage cleaner is over. I never want to do this again.

Look at a rusted our 60 and then a slightly rust 60. Focus on those areas first.
The frame looks nice but where they rust is between the rear cross suport and the actual frame. It is a "C" inside of a "C". It is around the spare tire area.
The next area would be around the rear wheel wells at the back bottom corner of the passenger doors.
The next area would be in the cargo area. Lower you tailgate and pull the carpet up and look in the righ hand corner of the bed. There is a seam there where it is assembled. That is the second place to rust.
I can post pics of these areas if you want.

I looked around the spare, I will check the other areas tonight. If it is clear of rust- do you think a shot of metal protector would give a good protection? If it is not too much trouble to post pics of the rear passenger and deck area I would appreciate it.

Those are some great pics. Looks clean. I'm gonna laugh when you go through mud. As soon as you go home you'll have this crazy twitch until you clean it... I smell similarities between you and Howard Hughes.

Here you go. You have to take off the chrome strip and pull up the carpet to see it in a complete vehicle.

Thanks Dan. I checked the c within a C and only saw some grease thats all. I will just respray with Metal protector. I finished the chassis black tonight and man it looks sweet. Better than mr toyoda could have done. I will post pics in the morning.
Mud? well at least now it will just rinse off with a hose. I am not going to be cleaning this part of the truck like this ever again. It spiraled out of control, I almost lost my wife, my house and job. Luckily it is over.

NICE! clean is good, as is well painted. Competition vehicles always keep the frames and cages clean and painted so they can see cracks or new oil leaks. keep up the good work.

Awsome results.
Look into renting a landa.
The pressurized steam cuts grease like butter.
I paid $80 for a 48hr rental.

Haha- no prenup but I will be living in this rig, she can have everything else.
Where you a week ago Mel? That thing is sweet. Would have made this whole thing alot easier.
I am preparing for the first mud/dirt run. I just keep slowly telling myself "It will just wash off, it will just wash off"
