New Frame? Is it worth it?
I've had my 60 for a while, maybe over a year and a half. It's my first cruiser, I've wanted one for years. I bought it sight unseen. The guy sent me pics and told me it had "a little rust". I believe he called it "usual cruiser rust", and told me he got a quote of $500 to get it "boxed in" whatever that means. Being niave I went ahead and bought it. Needless to say the frame is being eaten out from under it. I have already had to put in a new rear crossmember as the old one is now rust flakes. The frame is especially bad in the rear. The floor pan and the body are actually in good condition. So my question is: Is it worth it to put a new frame on it (keep in mind I will probably have a shop do it), or do i just drive it untill she dies and buy a new one (people arent selling them cheap around here)?

It depends on what that 60 means to you.
I've had mine since it was almost new and took pretty decent care of it. But time still takes a toll. I decided to restore and repaint it recently and for weeks the thought of the typical spare tire area rot disturbed me. I finally came to the conclusion to do a frame off with a better frame. I'm not really sure if I know what I got myself into yet. |
