It sounds like you have the shaft out and you're trying to remove the Birfield joint, is that right? If so, I know of no other way than to hold the shaft in one hand using your other hand to beat the hell out of the joint with a big hammer. Sounds Cro-Magnon, but it worked for me, the inner clip eventually gives up. Maybe somebody more enlightened than myself knows a better way.

Get a pipe longer that the axle and stuff a rag in one end so you don't hurt the splines on the axle the put the axle in the other end, making sure the birf is wider that the pipe, then wack it on the floor of the garage till the birf lets go, cheers, Larry

Don't reuse the one clip that didn't break. They are both less than $2 ea. from Toyota.

Don't reuse the clips. Just get some new ones. I used a 3 foot long 1.5" diameter PVC pipe for mine. It only cost me $5 at the store and it's soft enough to not ruin the birf.

I just got through this myself...all I can say is GREASY!

Just weld a small tack on the splines where the shaft goes into the side gears. I tried to use new clips, gave up and broke out the welder.
