Looks like the the throw out bearing was history. Must look nice where the shot bearing and fork were trying to turn the clutch fingers into shredded wheat..

Let me take a stab a the guessing.
Somebody drove through some really deep mud and tried to shift gears while submerged. The mud and debris got between the pressure plate and flywheel. The presure plate wore way down and allowed the tension forks to over extend and break off. Or the debri held it back and pushed the pressure plate agains the throw out bearing until it began rubbing on the input shaft spacer.

alright, so here goes. i think the throw-out bearing support ( snout on the front of the transmission front bearing retainer ) broke off after having been cracked due to an improper previous clutch replacement attempt.
this in turn caused a mis-alignment of the throwout bearing to the pressure plate, causing the bearing to fail and wear thru the clutch diaphram fingers.
either way, it's fubar'd. but i have another front bearing retainer and clutch kit in stock. right now i'm waiting for a new front seal and bearing retainer gasket from toyota and the trans will be ready to go back in. both the trans and t-case were low on oil but the oil did'nt look bad so i;m not sure if it was'nt filled all the way or if there's a leak. i did'nt see any obvious signs of leakage. i did replace both t-case output seals since they were rock-hard.
once we get the new clutch and geartrain back in the rig we can take it for a test drive and see what else we need to fix.
the list right now:
carb colling fan bad ( already replaced yesterday )
carb cooling fan connector melted ( fixed yesterday )
bad front alternator bearing; alt will be replaced later this week
bad smog pump, will be ........
bad ps pump, ..........
knuckles leak but nothing major
suspension bushings are wasted
hood prop missing
smog valve broken; already replaced
a few smog lines cracked, missing or dangling; already taken care of
rear pinion leaking badly; waiting for a new seal and stake-nut from the dealer
wrong combination of ac compressor and alt bracket as well as pulleys; replacements have been located
and a few other odds and ends.
the good news is that the engine had plenty of oil in it, good oil pressure and the compression test came out great; 150-165psi in all 6 cylinders. so keep your fingers crossed!
last pic for the day:

Thanks Georg I appreciate it!
WOW that thing got abused since we owned like 5 years ago, I can't believe how bad they let that deteriorate. Just goes to show what simple maintenance can do if neglected long enough. On a side note I do have the 4 speed I took out my 6o during the 5 speed swap, and I'll sell it to you cheap if you need it.
Oh ya, and we're not that redneck up here

In fact any throw out bearing issues didn't translate itself through the stick. In other words I couldn't feel a wobbly bearing through the stick shift. What sucks is I could replace all of this myself but I couldn't take a bag of tools on the plane so I had nothing in the truck.

My guess was gonna be the throught bearing failed but it was revealed already... and also with a bad throughout you wouldnt feel it in the shifter... it would be felt in the pedal if anything.

mine did the same thing as you describe above in both post. it turned out to be my throughout bearing came apart and no longer hit on the clutch fork, it died died on the tollway in dallas, so i shut it off stuck it in gear and started it up, shifted it with no clutch the 25 miles home too, only thing that sucked was stoplights having to shut it off and start it back up, so it was kinda a slow take off process but on the road was no biggie.
the three images are of my T/O bearing after i got it home then proceded to drive it yet another 30 miles with no clutch to my new house. Why? cause i knew it would go so why not drive it?

Hey Grolar, welcome back to the U.S.!
The um...truck...is STILL in freaking Stockton. I am placing a call, right now as a matter of fact, to Georg to verify I am hoping onto an Amtrack tomorrow to go pick this bad boy up.
I will later go into some excruciating detail of what's been done once it actually sees my driveway.

When I was in collage my 60 did that. The cheap replacement (Chinese) TO bearing seized. I was broke at the time and could not afford to fix it properly (Toyota parts). So I only used the clutch with the seized bearing for 1st and reverse. Eventually (about a year later) the bearing finally machined its way through the fingers on the pressure plate. I was able to pry the TO bearing out of the pressure plate and tie the throw out arm back and still drove it for a few thousand miles by shutting the engine off at a red light then starting it in gear. Ahhh... the good old days.

Can't say I told you so, but my first email to Zach asked how driveable it was with a bad TO bearing.
He never replied, 'cause you were already talking to him.
Sounds like fun, keep the story coming!

I said one thing to him before flying out there:
"Please make sure that I can at least drive it home, as long as it ends up in MY driveway."
Yeah not so much. I can't begin to b1tch about the things he did NOT tell me about. But whatever, truck is mine and Georg has been awesome. I am actually leaving tomorrow first thing in the morning to grab a bus then the train to go back up to Stockton. This time with my son, some cash, my phone charger and anti-tweeker spray.

Good point.
Although I-5 looks good on a map and is quicker. You may want to stick to hwy99. A lot more mudders live off of hwy 99 and there are a lot more towns.
I-5 is pretty bare.

Yeah I learned my lesson. 99 all the way. I am scheduled to arrive in Stockton at 2:30 and as soon as Georg calls me back we can work out pick up times. Hopefully I can be on the road by about 4 or so.
So look for me!! :P

yup, it's time for the 60 to hit the road tomorrow. it won't be perfect but it should definetly be a lot more reliable and make it home in one piece.
it's still going to need some tinkering but it actually runs and drives well.
got the ebrake fixed today along with the hood release, replaced the front suspension bushings along with the sway-bar bushings, scored a hood, fender, valance and core support for it,...........
tomorrow i'll finish the bushings on the rear and a new air cleaner. then i will give it a final once-over before handing it over to joey.
besides that, i've had to replace the ps pump, ps box and high pressure line, smog pump, alternator, ac pump, evaporator, dryer, lines, belts, engine mount, acc brackets, .........
anyways, it's good to go now and should provide reliable transportation for quite a while.

Hey Georg do you have any pictures of the new routing of the accessories vs. the old routing? I ask because when we were looking at it I noticed it has the same accessory layout as mine and I thought that was normal, but is sounds like the accessories were mounted incorrectly.

Actually Georg figured out that the accessories are all off of an FJ40 not a 60.

well, at first glance the accs on the passenger side looked to be incorrect but all the parts looked oem so that threw me off.
after a little research i figured out that the truck did not have AC from the factory but did have a dealer installed AC retrofit conversion. parts are a lot harder to come by so i went with all the oem 60 series accs.
that included having to replace:
ac pump
ac mounting bracket/passenger side engine mounting bracket
lower rad hoses and metal tube
alternator
alternator mounting bracket
belt tensioner brackets crank pulley/marmonic balancer
all the other AC components
and a few other odds and ends
forgot to mention earlier that we also had to put brakes on the rig. i'll post pics later.......
