any mechanics in the house

I am hoping this isn't as bad as it sounds and any advice / help is much appreciated. I up shifted into 2nd gear and accelerated then approaching a stop decelerated and it sounded and felt like it was chewing gears and slipping. It drives fine on the upshift and if you engage the clutch and brake, no problem. The banging and grinding seems to be on the second gear deceleration. I am hoping it is low trans fluid, low transfer case fluid ... something simple...but.... any way thanks for any info.

Check your fluid levels first.

You do have an FJ60 right?

Loud Second Decell

Wow doesn't sound good, but what do I know. Let's see what the xperts on transfers and transmission think. I know just sufficent knowledge in this area to keep my big mouth shut. But I do want to read their suggestions. Luck hopefully

wild guess

i have never seen the internals on a 60 trans. since most of the noise is in second gear i would say that your second gear is showing wear on the coast side possibly some pitting.i would drain some fluid and get a magnet to see how much metal is getting mix in the oil.if this is the case my suggestion is time to move up to a 5 speed. also try changing the fluid it might minimize the noise,or best yet is skip a shift to 3rd.hope this helps. john
