r12-r134a How well does it work?

I just got a new compressor for my 60 as it is crazy hot here in arizona and am getting it hooked up and was wondering if now would be a good time to go to r134a.

For those who have done it,

Is it almost as cool as the r12?

What other parts did you change?

Where did you get the fittings?

Would you do it again or just stick with the r12?

I retrofitted mine about 2 years ago. Used a kit from NAPA which contained new oil and new low pressure adapter to fill the system. Was simple to do and works pretty good. The air is actually colder than the old r-12, however after about 10 minutes of max A/C the system will ice up and turn off for about two minutes before kicking back on. A nuisance but not a big deal unless it's a really hot day. SOR sells a retrofit kit that includes a new receiver/dryer which would probably solve this small issue. Your system will have to vacuumed out before any new refrigerant can be introduced since your lines were opened to the atmosphere.

the new reciever dryer would solve the icing up problem? Whats different about it? Thats cool that it works so well though. I don't think i'd make it two minutes out here in the 115 degree summer without it though haha.
