'84 FJ60 newbie question

I'm a regular in the 40 and 55 forums, but I ran across an '84 60-series near me for $500 (asking) that the garage says a guy brought in because it didn't run, but then decided he didn't want to fix it.

The shop knows NOTHING about the non-running condition.

They say it has very little rust (yeah, right, believe THAT when I see it...)

Is an '84 fuel-injected, or carbureted? If it's carbureted, I might be able to rely on my wits to see why it won't run, but if I CAN'T get it to run, are there $500 worth of un-boltable parts on that vintage rig (not including the drivetrain, I'm not going to factor that in because God only knows when I can pull it)?

I figure I'd keep the front knuckles-out for the disc brakes, but that's about it.

84's are carburated. Parts could easily fetch over $500 if it's clean

I don't see how you could miss for $500. Check it out. It should have electronic distributor/ignitor along with the appropriate push rod side plate if your 40 needs that. That's half the deal right there. Then there are the disk breaks. Also, power steering set up if your older 2 Fs have the holes.

didn't run could be alot of things, does it turn over but not start? could be an easy fix, $500 is not a problem to get back in parts if you have the time and room for it.

yep, snag it. doors & lil bits alone will get your $$ back.

dibs on hood bumpers, front dome light assembly, DS turn signal gasket, PS rear marker lite. ; )

What color is it? And what's the mfg date on the inside door jamb. And what's the mileage.

That's a great deal, and I'll bet the no run condition is something easy. Just make sure the motor isn't seized and if it will turn over, buy the thing and keep it on the road. These trucks are just tough, and are hard to kill, so grab it and start with the basics-battery, fusible links, ignition, tune up, compression. That should tell you where the problem lies.

If you pick it up and do decide to part it out I would like to put dibs on the left front fender if not rusty and the headlight valance again if not rusty.
BTW what color is it.
Good luck

That's a steal in parts alone for $500. Then again if you get it running you can double that or more in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the input-

I'm gonna call the guy today and possibly snag it. I'll let everyone know if I do, and start honoring the dibs requests here before I do any classified postings.
