I was thinking of swiching over to propane (LPG) to cut fuel cost but it turns out that that isint going to happen this year because the price of gas is somehow affecting the price of LPG.
![]() I am still thinking about it in the long run when the natural gas pipline is built from the north slope to Anchorage and the lower 48. Popane prices should go down then because the oil and gas come from the same hole and most oil feilds are just natural gas fields with a little oil in them. There is so much gass up there we could change all cars and trucks to propane and drive forever. The ratio is something like 100(gas):1(oil) in the oil feilds. Some are just gass fields. Today 6/25/08 gas is $4.39 /gal. and propane is $4.79 / gal. I find this amazing because I live in Anchorage which is right near an oil and gass feild to the west a couple hundred miles away. I was hoping some other people from around the country or world would let me know what there propane/LPG prices are in there area. |

There's a recent thread on propane conversions with some prices. Utah is the cheapest propane in the country, something like $.62 (as in sixty two cents, that's right) per gallon.

apparently you can put your zip into this: home-heating-oil-propane-kerosene-prices
It's for home propane, not sure if there would be a difference in price. Actually, how does one even get propane for their vehicle? I read the thread on the conversion, and it caught my eye as well. __________________ 94 LC, 110K, FOR 3" lift, Nitto TG 315's 86 LC, 150K, OME Medium, ARB front, custom rear bumper, Warn 8274, BFG 33" Muds And a silly little VW TDI Jetta Wagon that does 50mpg |

And here in LA gas is like 4.50-4.90/gal and pane is between 2.19-3.70/gal... And I'm still waiting for my kit in the mail... should be here soon. __________________ HELO?....is this thing on? 1991 fj80 's but I drive it, suspension air bags, roof rack, trailer 8pin connection, 7 pin mod, hood spacers & stolen radio. 1985 fj60 (DD)HID-xenon retrofit projectors, tailgate storage, rear seat shoulder belts, 62 rear sway bar, & roof rack. 1987 4runner, seat bracket spacers(4crawler.com), driver side battery, HID-xenon retrofit projectors, & modified/upgraded intake, rancho shocks.WWW.RONSERRANO.COM |

Last year propane gas (LPG) was $2.66 here, now it is $4.79!! How is it even possible that is is so much cheaper in the lower 48 when we have our own gas field with lots of off shore gas rigs right here in the Cook Inlet only miles away!
Nothing like being charged more for your own local products than than other people who have them exported to them. I also heard our Copper River red salmon filets were about $2-3 more a pound here in Anchorage Alaska than in Washington state. This just adds further insult. Thanks everyone, Keep those prices coming. |

In Aus atm petrol (gas) is about $1.65 per litre and LPG (propane) about $0.65 per litre.

By the way. It is my understanding that Propane is a byproduct of the gasoline refining process. Natural gas is different. It comes from the ground in gaseous form. Compressed Natural gas CNG is harder to deal with than propane because it takes a lot more pressure to get it into liquid form for storage. Just a thought. Propane is bound to be more closely tied to gasoline pricing than CNG.

Propane is a three-carbon alkane, normally a gas, but compressible to a liquid that is transportable. It is derived from other petroleum products during oil or natural gas processing. It is commonly used as a fuel for engines, barbecues, and home heating systems. When sold as fuel, it is commonly known as liquified petroleum gas (LPG or LP-gas), which can be a mixture of propane along with small amounts of propylene, butane, and butylene. The odorant ethanethiol is also added so that people can easily smell the gas in case of a leak. |

One thing I heard recently, the LPG we put in our cars burns cooler than the gas we use for our BBQ's and heating in our homes. Apparently is we were to use BBQ gas in our cars it would do some serious damager to the valve seats and upper cyclinders due to the heat. If we were to use the gas from our cars in our BBQ's it would take a long time cook anything.
Don't know if this is just an urban myth that gets told around a few beers and some BBQ. __________________ One man's junker is another man's blank canvas. |

I work in the oil and gas business. The price of LNG is mostly dependant upon how cold the winter is. This last winter was slightly colder than average, more natural gas in reserve was used and therefore the price goes up. Natural gas is currently hovering around 13/mcf and it was at 6/mcf just a few months ago. The price of crude drives the natural gas price somewhat, but not completely. Its driven more by how cold the previous winter was. If we have a warm winter this year, expect the price of natural gas to go down like crazy...
My 2 cents: Set your vehicle to run on both and use whatever is cheaper at the time OR just take that money and by a 1990 civic. __________________ 83' FJ60 - Mint Condition which is now FOR SALE 72' FJ55 - SOA, SR, DB, FJ62 PS, Webber, Header, H.E.I., 37 X 12.5 X 15 MT/R's, Savanah-heat air freshener. 07' FJC - Atrac Hack - DD 03' Matrix Xrs - It's her's ![]() 08' Tundra, 4.7 2WD - Company Truck |
