FJ60 Dual guage setups
I am putting a mechanical oil pressure and water temp in my 60. I am wondering if anyone has any pics or location ideas? I am feeling kinda stuck with right under the ashtray. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a couple:
Universal Single DIN Radio Face Triple Gauge Pod: GS-URF03 PillarPod.com - Triple Pillar Pods & Gauge Pods Universal Triple Dash Pod - GS-D3U And a group buy for pillar pods by mud members has produced: www.gaugepods.com // Lotek Inc. (7th one down the list) Edit: These are all 3 hole options. Perhaps another gauge? Rick Last edited by rchalmers3; 06-12-08 at 08:50 PM. Reason: spelling correction |

I put mine above the hood release on the left side. Fairly easy to view once you get used to it

I like the radio din one- I would need to remount my radio and possibly get a tuffy though.

I'm in the middle of making a custom metal / fiberglass dash cap, it'll allow me to mold up a gauge pod and glass it to the dash cap.
Plan on setting the two gauge pod just right of the gauges now, with a slight angle towards the drivers seat. Probably overkill, but it gave me a reason to cover up my busted up dash and will be a good platform for adding gauge pods too... Used a 24x36" sheet of perforated aluminum sheet from the local hardware store and have the first coat of fiberglass on it. Bad pictures but gives the idea. __________________ 1982 FJ60 - 350, 2+" lift, 33s - "the keeper" 1969 FJ40 - still getting to know her... __________________ |

I wonder if you could trim it down to two and make it fit in the space over the ashtray?

I think that area where the clinometer goes would be perfect but cannot find anything that wont require alot of fab.

This was my approach. I chopped up the underlying metal cap of an extra FJ60 dash to make the auxiliary dash mount. My fabbing skills are limited so it's not the cleanest installation, but it works. Gauges from left to right are vac, oil, water, volts.

I've found that I really like the placement of these gauges because they're easy to check without taking my eyes off the road but for a brief second, and I use these much more than the stock ones.
The top of the mount was cut from the raised section which has the speedo and other stock gauges, and the portion into which the Autometers are actually mounted was cut from the large vertical blank section which lies above the glove box. I pop riveted the pieces together. A short piece of aluminum angle is along the lower right and holes were drilled through this for mounting to the dash. For mounting to the dash I had the dash cap out and I drilled through it and JB welded nuts to the underside. My stock dash was cracked and I filled holes with some paintable silicone and sprayed it and the auxiliary console with a gray paint. There's a gap between the dash and gauge mount and a pile of wires and copper lines routed through the speaker hole and all this looks a bit but it works.

This is an overlay on top of the existing pad. I will be using paint after it's completed, maybe gel coat? (just because I did a boat repair for a friend and have some left over for free on the shelf). I'll post up a quick write up when finished. __________________ 1982 FJ60 - 350, 2+" lift, 33s - "the keeper" 1969 FJ40 - still getting to know her... __________________ |

70 series gauge pods. Works really well from what I've seen.

why not the a-pillar? was there not a group buy not too long ago for these?
I do like the idea of the radio hole, not sure of what would be needed to fab for the hvac control mount. The other idea you already stated would be to add a tuffy and move the radio there. After seeing the din mount I may have to look into this myself.. hhmm more shtuff to buy... clint __________________ It's a Jeep thing I didn't understand. I just have an oil pressure gauge on my 60 but imagine 3 in a row under the dash
I feel this is the neatest, less intrusive place for gauges. Unless you want to poke holes in the top of your dash. __________________ 1985 FJ60: needs a few things. 1989 FJ62: eye candy! 1993 Toyota Pickup: zero rust! 1985 Celica GT-S convertible: daily driver |

With the under dash mounts make sure that where they are placed will not interfere with the shift levers. A situation like this would be more likely if you're mounting a series of gauges along the underside of the dash.
