16x6 Toyota pickup plain steel wheel . Alternative to Non USA split rim.
1992 - 1995 Toyota Pickup 4WD 16" x 6" Steel Wheel | Lifetime Warranty
Well, I'm looking for a set of steel wheels for my fj62. Been considering Fj40 15' steelies, Non usa spec 16" splits, and then I found this wheel. I can't find a picture of it anywhere and not sure if it will fit. Its a toyota pickup 16x6 steel wheel. Anyone know anything about these wheels? Its got a toyota part # on it. Called a local dealership and the wheel didn't even show up in their system but did come up when I gave them the part #. Anyone know if this wheel looks like the FJ40 steelies and the Non USA split wheels? It may be great for people looking to run a simple 16" wheel but don't want to fool with the danger and hassle of the split rims. __________________ 89 FJ62 |

Someone on expedition portal posted up a picture of them. Ended up not being what I was after. They look like the regular tacoma wheels, but they are steel. They are NOT the solid steel hub cap taking type like the Fj40's and the split rims.

Why don't you get some of those:
That one is silver (42601-60262-03), but I reckon they make them in black and in white (different last couple of numbers). Great on a 60, great on an 80. Perfect for skinnies. I love 'em ![]() Now, if they could meke 'em in Stainless Steel, it would be perfect

Thanks for the input guys and replies.
I've got a stock set of chrome ones on my 62 right now. I'm really looking for a set of 16 inch non split wheels that look like the fj40 solid steel wheels that take the hub caps or the split rims. But it appears that these wheels dont exist, at least I cant find any. I thought that the 16x6 steel pickup wheels would be styled like the fj40 steel wheel but it appears that they are not. __________________ 89 FJ62 |

I'd love a set of the stock 16" chromies, except for the exorbitant cost.
Most of the Toy pickup wheels, especially those meant for IFS trucks will have serious backspacing issues, You'll have to run anywhere from 1 - 1.5" spacers to get them to not rub. __________________ Joel ----- Parting an FJ62 - PM me "Birds have nests, foxes have dens but the hope of the whole world lay on the shoulders of a homeless man." - R. RredFJ40, WHERE did you locate these 16" chromies? Are these the used stuff SOR wants $350 each for, USED? If so, you can add my vote to your use of the term "exhorbitant"... BTW, that's pretty much what Toyota Canada wanted a few years ago for their stock OEM 15" chromies.... NO THANKS!!!
I just wish there were places where stainless steel versions could be made. At that price, it may well be interesting, as these wheels would be guaranteed not to rust ever (in 316 SS, at least )

I've had the same wheels on for a year now, really nice. I was afraid they would rust right away in our salty winter, but there is only some minor staining at the interface disc/torus... As you know this wheel includes a central disk with has a bent lip where it's welded to the torus section... Not as good as the straight weld of the OEM chromies, IMO... So, we'll see how they hold up in time! __________________ 91HDJ81VX (The Beast), 4B JDM, since Nov 06 83BJ60 (The Old Faithful), Still Running, Gone to a New Home 83BJ60 (Rusty but Trusty), Dec 90 - July 98, Parted Out 76FJ40 (Big Red), April 87 - July 93 |

thanks. Yah I bought my first set over three years ago. Ran a winter now on them. My first set for my 60 ended up on my 80 too. I do have a couple specks of rust, but very minor. I bet they last a long time. If they should start to rust you can always have them sand blasted and powder coated.
I pay 80 cnd for them. SO not really expensive. And they fit really good with no interference issues at all. Just don't expect to run wider than 10.5 inches on them for a tire. I run 9.5 inch tires now. My next ones will be 255/85 r16 or 255/100 r16(9.00 x16 XZL) Depends on if I can find them or not. __________________ -84 BJ60, Finally on the FN road! -91 FJ80, wife's ride Iron Butt award winner of the Cruise Moab 08 ! |

Yes, likewise!!! I've tried to find 255/85 in NON-MUD (for the hard-surface, asphalt-covered trails we call roads around here) but haven't been able to...

That's affirmative. Stock 16" chromes that look just like the stock 15" chromes.
Isn't that picture you posted of the stock chromes? In 15 or 16? If not their the spittin' image. What was the cost on those? Quote:

Although they are not chrome, they look pretty good nevertheless. The coating has survived one salty canadian winter with only a very slight staining at the interior seam where the disk welds to the rim itself, but it's very slight and can probably be controlled with penetrating oil and vaseline...

They are almost identical in backspace (I believe by 1/2 inch) and width and they fit on the BJ60 so in essence, yes they should fit.
If you insist I'll take a closer look and measure, I have one of both lying around.

If you wouldn't mind, these look like the perfect rims. Then maybe a 235 BFG.

By backspacing I actually mean the distance from the inner surface of the central wheel disk (at the studs) to the rim lip (place a straight piece of wood across the rim and measure from the inside mating surface to the underside of that peice of wood). By rim width I mean the inside width at the rim lip So... the 16 inch Toyota rim is: 6 inches wide and "backspacing" is 3.5". OTOH, the old style OEM 60 series white rim is 6 inches wide (but 15 inches in diameter) and the "backspacing" is 3.25 inches. In other words, the 16 injch wheel will make the track (1/4 nch x 2) narrower than the original (on a 60). Of course, it also depends on the tire you are using. This rim is ideal for a truck type 235/85R16, but is probably a bit narrow for the larger "MUD" 255/85R16. On my 80 series I have used this rim with the 235/85R16 W985 Blizzaks, a tire that is not great for holding the road when taken at speed in bumpy curves, but that has proven great for pure grip on ice and packed snow and quite durable on top of that. Drawback, poor handling at speed and a fairly harsh ride. I don't know about the BFG, sorry can't comment. What is intended use? __________________ 91HDJ81VX (The Beast), 4B JDM, since Nov 06 83BJ60 (The Old Faithful), Still Running, Gone to a New Home 83BJ60 (Rusty but Trusty), Dec 90 - July 98, Parted Out 76FJ40 (Big Red), April 87 - July 93 |

Thank you for the info on back-spacing.
Intended use will be highway and around town in dry California and some camping off fire roads...nothing too crazy. I'm converting the BJ42 to bio-diesel (just changing out the fuel lines), so I'm trying to figure out which tire will be best suited for the BJ. It's a non-turbo and I don't want to create too much drag with a large tire, but still want something that will take me into the hills. __________________ RHD 1982 BJ42 |

Then any tire in the 235/85R16 configuration would work well with this rim. If you find a good tire for that application - mostly durable highway and robust enough with decent enough traction for tough but dry (no mud) roads - in that size, let me know

I asked CDan about these a few weeks ago...
He can get them to us for $120.48 each + shipping. The list price is $160.64. I like these alot, just wish they were a little wider. __________________ Cameron Mosley '85 FJ60 - Daily Driver |

!! I have been wanting an extra set of steel wheels for my 62 as well. Been wanting something very plain looking..Something like the "NATO" wheels that are avaiable for LR's. Honestly, they don't have to be steel, but it would be nice !! Didn't mean to hijack, just need some options. Seems I'm not the only one looking . ![]()

Only options there are to run the kind of wheel you are talking about that I know of are: 1. To use fj40 disc brake wheels (15" but you could get them made into 16" for $) 2. Use the toyota split rims that came on non usa cruisers and risk blowing your face off- 16x5.5" 3. Find some ancient chevy truck wheels from the 60's or 70's that are 6 bolt pattern - these look almost identical to the fj40 wheels but are 16" instead of 15". I know some of these came in really narrow sizes like 4" widths etc, wider ones may exist. 4. Get a more modern chevy 6 bolt rim that looks somewhat similar to the "Nato" style wheels and paint over the silver with grey paint or white etc. These came on base model chevy trucks from like 85-95 and are 16x6.5. Also, on the chevrolet wheels the backspacing might not be correct and the center hole may need to be enlarged to fit over the cruiser hubs on the front axle. Chrome sucks. Stupid American car market. __________________ 89 FJ62 |
