About to pull off head off..just a few ?'s

So I finally fot the manifolds and all other stuff detached from the head and I am almost ready to pull it off with an engine hoist. Oh yeah, im still working without a FSM but it should come in before the weekend.

Do these two bolts attatch to the block(the big ones that look like head bolts)?
If so, how do you re-atatch them to pull the head off?

Also, 3 of my injectors look like the one on the right. What does that mean? Do I need new injectors or can I clean them and put them back in service? Also the intake manifold has black residue in the ports. Do I have a more serious problem then a HG?
Thanks for the help,
Paul

ok, the head is out and the gasket looks pretty warped. Im not sure what to make of it as far as where coolent might have been getting through but here are a few pictures to see what you all think.
The metal area around #2 got a little bit dinged up as ot came out.

Here are my thoughts. Yes, those two bolts are head bolts. Those two hooks are to remove the entire engine, not just the head. I pulled my head by myself with no hoist, so it is possible but if I were you I'd use a bolt into a threaded hole (like a rocker arm bolt) with some chain.

deposits in the intake is probably coming from the PCV valve (you didn't say which cylinders they were leading to). Another possibility might be blowby.

Clean up the injectors, replace the PCV valve, and possibly fix the blowby (probably new rings) and you should be good to go.

I can't really tell from the picture because of the flash, but are the first 2 pistons clean (shinny)? The gasket looks ok to me. If you have clean pistons it usually means water is getting in the cylinders. Carbon build up is normal.

Good question. Why are you pulling off the head? More info is needed.

thanks guys,
Im pulling the head because I had milky oil and I was blowing white smoke and coolent out of the exhaust. It seemed like it needed to get done so I am learning as I go. It isnt my DD so I am able to take my time and learn from my mistakes. Im hopeing that by the time Im finished it will still be less then what my mechanic was going to charge.
Thanks,
Paul

Not too difficult of a job. Are you sure you were blowing coolant out of the exhaust?

yeah it was pretty evident. There would be a little pool of it after running the engine for just a minute or so.

I would think it is pretty difficult for antifreeze to come out of the exhaust. If it's getting in the cylinders it should burn up. The only way for it to come out of the exhaust would be if it's getting in the exhaust manifold but even then it would have to go through the cat and the cat gets pretty hot as well.

yeah, I dont know what the deal is. I am sure though that it was coolant coming out. I have the muffler disconnected so the coolent doesnt rust out the muffler. Im no mechanic so im not sure as to how it is happening but Im sure that it is. Could the head have heated up to the point that it warped a little and coolant was making its way thruogh? I am going to take the head in soon to have it magnafluxed(i think thats what its called) and machined if thats what it needs.
Thanks,
Paul

Make sure the head goes to a machine shop to be checked for cracks. Hopefully it's just the gasket, but you never know.

Looking at the injector picture:
The dirty injector is normal.
The other (clean) injector is missing the plastic nose that is supposed to be permanently crimped on the nose of the injector. Look down in the injector socket for that piece(s).

GL.
