Wiper Blades

[87 HJ60]

I've tried three different brands of wiper blades for my Land Cruiser. But each one has the same problem where they're noisy when they wipe across the windshield. It's ok when it goes from the rest position to max wipe but on the return wipe it seems the wipers bounce as they go along the windshield. How can I fix this? The brands of wiper blades I've tried are from Canadian Tire, Bosch and some unknown set that can with the truck when I bought it.
Help me with this as it's very annoying........

Call Cruiserdan and get OEM Toyota- not expensive and they are the best hands down. I went down this same road and will never buy aftermarket again.

I use Bosch with no problems... I also filled my washer fluid with All Season by Rain-X. It beads the water nicely so I don't even need to use the wipers most of the time unless it is misting.

The problem may not be your wiper blades but with your wiper arm. I read someplace that the blade needs to be perpendicular (at 90degrees) to the windshield. If the arm is twisted, the blade may make noise (in one direction?).

Also, if the tension spring is weak, it may not be strong enough for the wiper to keep good contact over the whole stroke.

Bosch x2. I went with the 17 incher and I would definitely do the 19 inch version next time.

I too use Bosch. For me, they work better than OEM.

Your problem may be a worn out windshield. I've been doing some research on this and it seems over time, you develope micro scratches and pitting. Cerium oxide can be used to buff out some of the pits and small scratches. I think this can be purchased at rock shops since it is also used to polish rocks. Google "cerium oxide windshield" for many links.

Many claim that once the windshield gets that bad, replacement is the only course of action. I figure this stuff is cheap, what's the worst you can do if it needs replacement anyhow? I just haven't gotten around to the task yet, but plan to this summer (yeah, it's on the list).

Some other posts on the bending of the wiper arm and blade choices. The second may be less relevant to us 60s (it's from the 80 series forum), but I haven't replaced mine yet so the drivers vs. passenger side may also be something to look at.

i had to bend my arms to make the blade 90 degrees to the windshield. i use whatever blades i can find since i eat them up pretty fast with all the rock chips on my windshield. they all work pretty well except for the super cheap automoan ones.

Just went out, bent mine some, and it stopped the skipping/noise on the return to resting position - I love free fixes.

replaced the blades(OEM), the arms, the holders, clean the wondow(with Spot X) and the damn driverside still skips......its the vintage 1986 window....

Since I live in Seattle, where we have a lot of "light" rain (drizzle we call it) skipping can be a problem. OEM inserts are better I think. Getting the blades set up the right way is also important - there is a R and L, and the curve of the spring steel inserts is different from L to R sides.) However, the single most important "variable" - already mentioned above - is that the blade needs to be perpendicular to the glass.

Funny I bought some nice "reflex" blades for my 80 and they worked just fine. Then I bought some for my 60 and they worked like crap. I found the cheapest metal spring stlye ones from Canadian tire worked the best. 6 bucks each. The 17 inch fit fine as well. I think stock is 16 inch.
