Hi all, my 3f is on propane, as you guys in the USA call it. Don't skimp on the quality of the mixer and if you haven't done it already, you really need the electronic ignition. I've been DD'ing my 62 on lpg for over 150,000 klms and no problems at all, but you need to pay attention to the spark, the bigger the better with gas. SEcondly, don't forget an upper cylinder lubricant like a Morey's vacuum feeder or a Flashlube injection setup. Its cheap peace of mind. To give you an idea, with points ignition, out of 70litres of propane I would get 250klms per tank, when i did the conversion to electronic, it was worth an extra 80klms per tank and heaps easier starting. Anyways, enjoy, your engine will as well, even after 7500 klms my oil is honey coloured and clean, and the insides are like brand new.

Electronic ignition is a wonderfull thing, but I suspect, that your points were not functioning properly before the swap

Besides, all 60's came with fully electronic ignitions here in the states

ALL 60 CAME WITH ELECTRONIC IGNITION? PLEASE EXPLAIN... (You can really tell I am sooooo not quilified to be doing this)

K guys... moneys on the way from the bullion dealer...just need to set it up with pane guy for payment and wait.

Found Sleegers website. Also thir application list & their instal guide. I spoke to the rep at Sleegers and he said that the 26gal DOT tanks are on back order till like Aug. That item # is 133032. He said I can also look online too see what other tanks might fit based on available space. He said the tanks to choose from for my application (behind axle/under truck) has SEUW under the "valves/mounting" column. In the US price list the SEUW shows up next to the size under the "Description Column". Hope this answers alot of ?'s.... I'm at work now so I cant really measure how much space I have there w/out the spare tire.... I won't be able to check till next week. I've got a real busy weekend schedule. I will order the kit though... will keep you guys posted....

Oh and do I start a new thread? or keep it in this one? (need to confirm IHMud etiquette since I did not start this thread.)

Let me know guys....

"Natural-gas vehicles hot in Utah, where the fuel is cheap"

I read this in the local paper a couple months ago. It was a nationwide AP story. Did a google search and found this copy online. Interesting article on how incentives and tax credits drive consumer demand. I want a CNG cruiser!

"Troy Anderson was at the gas pump and couldn't have been happier, filling up at a rate of $5 per tank.
Anderson was paying 63.8 cents per gallon equivalent for compressed natural gas, making Utah a hot market for vehicles that run on the fuel.
It's the country's cheapest rate for compressed gas, according to the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, and far less than the $3.56 national average price for a gallon of gasoline."

Mace... the impco 200 mixer is good for 250 cfm's.... do you know whats the cfm for the 2f carb?

Also, he needs the diameter for the carb to make the adapter plate. I don't have a clue.... Anyone know the diameter? I won't be able to pull it apart till next week and I wanted to order it today..... OH well busy times....

If I order the 300 I have to buy and additional 140? dollar part. And for that he said you might as well go for a 450.

I will try to get under the hood on Sunday.

Dual fuel from oz

My 62 with 3f runs a dual fuel setup.
Petrol makes more power than the LPG and it is noticeable. The factory carb is better at putting out consistent mixtures throughout the rev range, where a gas mixer leans out a bit at the top end.
Most setups cut the petrol before it gets to the carb. Because of this it is best to run petrol just before you switch off for the day and start on petrol the next day, otherwise the gaskets in the carb will dry out and you will get deposits in your fuel passages in your carb. It is very common here to find dual fuel car with major carb problems because they are not run on petrol.
Also as LPG burns cleaner than petrol, it leaves no carbon coating on the valves and valve seats. Unless the heads are built with hardened valve seats, the head will suffer premature valve seat recession. You can buy upper cylinder lube which runs a drip feeder into the manifold which remedies this but most people just need to remember to run the engine on petrol for a short time each trip or every other trip. On a longer trip I switch to petrol as I pass through towns, as good a reminder as any. Lol in truth I stop at the pub too and that way both engine and driver get lubed.
Engines run on straight LPG can run compression up to 14:1 which is part of the reason dual fuel cars are not optimal. Also LPG burns slower the petrol and so an engine on LPG benefits from a more advanced spark.
Personally I won’t have a car that’s not dual fuel. It more than just a money saver, it builds a redundancy into the vehicle. If your carb or fuel pump buggers up on a trip you can just flick over to LPG or vice versa and get out of trouble.
Here in oz LPG is not taxed while half of the cost of our petrol goes to the govt.

GAL - I read someplace that the stock 2F Carb is like 425CFM. This was some time ago when I came across this, so I may be wrong....oh here it is.

all 2F heads have hardened valve seats.

I would just do the 425 with an offy manifold and a holley base plate.

Hey Gas-a-lot, you don't want a 200 mixer, you want a 300 mixer, 425 would probably work but kinda big, 200 is more like 22r motor or 4 cyl jeep.

Impco 300 a
check it out!

Yeah, well like I said: Impco is the way to go. The 300 mixer has been around forever. Dual fuel makes most sense, given the realities of life in America and availabilities of propane. The solenoid deals well with changing the fuel flow from gasoline to LPG, but I would still like to know how to conveniently change the advance of the spark when switching between the two fuels. Any ideas? Also, Manchester Tank use to be the tank of choice. A light composite tank would be better, but do they have enough capacity. I say LP gas is volatile because if it leaks, it pools in low places and is very explosive, but this is probably not a problem because most systems have a leak prevention fail-safe valve built in at the tank.

The only thing I came up with in the past to automatically advance the timing was a solenoid operated switch on the vacuum advance and manually increase the static timing. Set up so that on petrol there was no advance and when you switch to gas there was vacuum advance.
Didn't run really well on petrol as the vacuum advance was gone so I scrapped it.
I just tune mine to run on gas and only run it on petrol once each time its started and generally only on a nice straight road.

Dual curve is the parent company of MSD. They make a great "closed loop" system for propane power. They also make a dual timing system for computer controlled vehicles but I have not seen anything they make that works for a LC (cept for the dedicated closed loop system that I have on my 40)

Done cooking and home getting ready for tomorrow....

OH yeah on that timing thing..... I spoke to Jim C bout that also. He said no lighter springs needed. Due to him having to put harder springs to compensate for a desmoged motor. Any how, he said he will help me out later on getting that taken care of once I get the dual fuel set up. He said that their should/is a way that we can take care of the timing advance issue manually by tapping into and using the existing vacuum advance system used for high altitudes. Leave it stock. and just use the advancement when switching over to pane..... Sounds doable right?

Sounds do-able to me. How much advance can you get from the high altitude vacuum setup?

OK!!!!! I've sent the money and the dimensions.... Lets see...

I'm looking at a 3" adapter to sit nicely on the carb due to a little over 3 1/16" O.D and a little over 2 15/16" I.D.
& the rubber gas line is just under 3/8"... should be a snug fit. oh and side note, anyone know how much them carb gaskets cost?

I will be sending 3 big ones to Jim c for a carb rebuild... We are trying to set it up to where I don't have to be w/out a carb for more that a week. Might as well rebuild the carb, that way I aint gotta worry bout that part for years....

Oh and the shut off thingy.... due to it being a mechanical fuel pump, Any one has the schematic of the fuel system... or any diagram? Unless someone already knows where it goes.....?

It's got to be past the return line so it wont be blocked off. Or its pointless.

Info please.....
