horn fixed ... great tip ... thanks 'Pimp'ster

Horn intermittent, worked when wheel turned, later ... dead, n'uthin' workin'. Tried to pull the wheel but the three screws that help on the cover seized and stripped heads. DUH ! Then I remembered LandPimp's remark ... "pop the emblem". Did it, worked great, pulled wheel, shimmed the horn ring using small washers, got horn.

Cheers,
Cahil

P.S. Gotta *love* a horny ending ...

I, too, have horn now thanks to this tip. As weenie as the stock horn sounds, it is music to my ears after three months without horn at all. Thanks Pimp and Cahil... appreciated.

What was the tip, my horn does not work either. It would work every now and then but no longer.

Pop the "Land Cruiser" emblem from the steering wheel face, loosen the nut (7mm socket, IIRC) so that you don't pop yourself in the nose with the wheel, pull like hell to loosen the wheel, remove the nut completely, pull the wheel off, shim the brass horn ring using small washers (mine used two stacked on top of one another under each of the horn ring screw holes), re-attach the ring, re-attach the wheel, check for horn, re-attach emblem.

Worked like a charm for mine. Thanks again, Pimp and Cahil.

Washers work - I used them for about a year. But, you can also order OEM replacement parts, for about $10. You need the horn ring, and the spring pin. CDan had 'em in stock when I got mine. The replacement parts worked better for me. The washers worked most of the time, say 80%. But they didn't really make up for the wear on the spring pin. The new spring pin works 100% of the time. Really cheap satisfaction. Probabaly safer too.

What was even more funny ...

Jason and I were talking ... and we were thinking about PM'ing LandPimp and asking him to tell us what's wrong with our trucks and how to fix it.

LandPimp has a very finely tuned "telepathic connection" to what is wrong with a Land Cruiser.

We wouldn't have to explain anything. Just ask 'Pimp' what's wrong and how to fix it.

lovetoski... yeah. I agree that the OEM parts would be the better option. I am going to order the parts for a permanent fix, but this is great for now.

cahil... glad you made it back alright.

Thanks ! No problems. Once on I-95, just let her cruise in her comfort zone ~75 mph. Nice and smooth all the way home.

Huge Thanks To This Thread!!!

I have had my rig for about 6 months now and the horn NEVER worked!

I kinda of put it off all of them time because i figured it was an electric issue and didnt want to screw with it.

Anyway, after reading this post, i pulled my steering wheel off, washered up the ring, reinstalled the wheel and the horn works flawlessly now!!!!!

Big Thanks To You Guys! (especially jhstatts)
