Congrats, that is great coverage! I think you'll be getting a few PMs with more questions. Good Job.

very funny . I don't think the would like the idea...
thanks...
plus the cost would be on the high side... let me see.....
projectors...70-140 Lets go with 100 even (there are not too many though)
cheap bay lights... 40
wire harness if he's got any left... 35
ballast + bulbs 80
2 epoxy sticks 14
1 jb weld 7
multiple dremel bits...?????
like 276?
for parts alone...
+ the bits... time oh and assuming that I can still get the steals that I was able to get... projectors alone go for 100+ I was able 2 score for 67 plus shipping

That is a pretty nice looking setup! I like these types of out-of-the-box-thinking ideas.

So you're basically using the cheapo H2 7" lens/reflector to hold the Acura lamp assembly, so the orientation of both is critical for aiming, no?
I have a pair of ancient Marschal Ampiluxes that I wanted to convert to HIDs but Daniel Stern put me off it. Seems the HID arc is different than a tungsten or halogen & would cause a lot of scatter. You'd see a lot of light but it wouldn't be doing any good.

H4 7" light with the back part gutted to fit the projector... I mounted them up first 2 get the horizon cut off correct b-4 I started cutting. It is a little tricky. This is my second retro. My first was on my 87 runner and one did not come out leveled right . But because of my first mishap, I made sure that these were cut right.
And yes! Daniel is right! You will be blinding left and right.... not to mention here were I live that will get you some nasty road rage + flying bullets @ you. & you always see a lot of this around here. And well to make it worse... they use like 5000k bulbs that have that blueish type of tint that just kills it! Along with a higher temp color rating you loose loose light out put. So stick with your basic 3500k? to 4000k.... don't go any higher as that will strain your eyes on long drives..... You will get plenty of white light with 3500k's... All you gotta do is mod the projector to get the rainbow flicker at the cut off only thus elimination any unwanted strain, attention from police, & cheapo rice burner blingy fake plastic chrome look... AND USE PROJECTORS!!!!! FROM OEM MODELS THAT CAME WITH HID'S

Any recommendations on what projectors to use besides the Acuras? Are they all the same length front to back or can you avoid some of your problems by getting shorter ones?
Could you have pushed your projectors farther forward in the lens/reflector housing or are you hard up against the lens now?
35W is nothing: I ran 2 100W halogen H1s in each of my Ampiluxes & had a diode/switch setup to turn the lows on with the highs. Do your projectors have separate highs & lows so you could do the same thing, or does the lamp move to change the focus?

"Look like you were near Downtown L.A.....eek"
uh yeah... 2 miles SE from dead center of down town Los Angles. It's funny cuz you wanna live west of Figueroa and north of Adams.... I live east of Figueroa and south of Adams.... Oh well... More reason to upgrade my home security system from just a dog to a dog, video security cameras, & a Five-Seven . It's not too bad... D'animal was able to drop by for a bit in the evening a while back, and he's doing fine.
He's even got beagles in his chariot! Thats more protection than even, I carry (hmm... bad grammar? oh well ).
Tinker.... I used the FX35 Bi-xenon projectors. They are "Bi-xenon", meaning that they are HI/LOW from a single projector. Aside from the 2 wires comming from the balast to the light bulb, there are 2 more from the shield lowering mechanism. These make the shield that gives these a sharp cut-off drop when the highs (shield down) are turned on allowing all/most of the light to pass through vs. half of the light during LOW operation (shield up).
There are other Bi-xenon projectors (BMW-M3) but these are the ones with the best output in stock form.
Then there are single xenon projectors (no high beam). Here's a quick discussion (with pictures-scroll down) among the best choices depending on preference. S2000 is the best. TSX with a lense swap gives the S2000 a run 4 the money. But the LS430 projector with a TXS lense swap will give the widest beam with killer! color to boot! What I mean by color is that rainbow effect you see from these lights coming down the HWY. But notice that they are only in the top cutoff section & not the whole light.
If you go single... take the LS430 route... The xtra wide beam comes in handy off road.
Now for the best fit....single projector use Lexus GS. & looking for those I stumbled on these. 4.5" deep bi-xenon from a Lexus IS350...imagine that. I could have used those... The light mounts on its side to eliminate length. But!!!! I don't know the output & cut-off. I might use those for my 4runner though .
As far as up against the glass... I think I left about 1/8" before touching the glass.
I hope this helps.... this is what I would recommend for our fellow Mudder's based on what our needs would be, but, of course using the best that is out there. You would have to choose based on your need & $$$. Anything else out there I would personally not touch. I once used a pair of E36 projectors (BMW) that I hated...
& last but not least! Here is my source for bi-xenon specific wire-ing harness. They are on special for 35$ while supplies last. Now remember... these are bi-xenon specific for 9007, 9004, & H4 (what we use). So don't go trying to reinvent the wheel with a triangle if you know what I mean....

Nice conversion. Did you end up sorting out the high beam dash light? If so would you mind sharing your solution with the rest of us please?
