Carb rebuild/tune?
Ok guys, I have a Weber carb on my '85 60, and I feel it's running poorly. I've tuned it to the best of my knowledge and I find the best results at around .3 to .6 turns out on the adjustment screws. Best results meaning throttle response and spark plug color (crispy brown/white). I'm no expert in these matters but from what I've read that is indicating I have jets that are too big. I dont know where the previous owners got the carb, it may be off a bigger truck so it's jetted for that truck. Also, It doesnt have the power/respose I would expect or want. A hard throttle seams to flood it out, so i have to modulate my foot pretty carefully. My questions are this
1) Try and go with a rebuild/clean/re-jet on my own? 2) Find someone who can tune and jet it properly? I am going on a pretty long trip in about 6 weeks and need this thing to be running great. I'm also going to put all new seals and gaskets on the engine and rebuild the front axel while I have it down. Thanks guys. Also, any suggestions / links on posts demonstrating good expedition rigs. I'm looking at living out of this thing for a couple months and I want to do it right. I'm not lazy and I cruise the board constantly, but maybe if you have any good advice for me that I've missed. I ran into about $1200 I will invest, which will go toward a Centerforce dual-friction, SOA, and everything else I need for this trip. Alright, yeehaw. travis __________________ pro-bono |

Which weber? I run the 38/38 and its great. Find someone local who is familar with these and have them work on it for you. They work great but need to be set up correctly.
