MT's New 60 is home!!!
Well, I finally did it. I took the plunge and I'm now officially a Cruiser head again. I had been kicking myself for selling my FJ40 about ten or so years ago and have had the itch ever since. But, things happen, the family grows, and the time never seemed right...until now. I flew out to Chicago early Saturday morning and was picked up by fellow Mud member Rob who pulled up in Big Blue. After meeting Rob face to face and seeing the rig up close, my feelings were confirmed that he was a stand-up guy who takes great care of his rigs (he's got an 80 too). We spent about four plus hours going over the rig top to bottom, driving around...with a coffee run into Downtown Chicago to boot. It's fun getting all the looks driving a big rig in urban traffic. Everything looked very nice: a few tiny rust bubbles but all very solid inside and out. The F2 is clean, de-smogged, and obviously well maintained. The interior is also in great shape as well. After the coffee run we went back to his place and he started showing me all the spare parts for a 60 that he's collected and we loaded them up into the back....had to put the back seats down to fit it all in. After all the paper work was done we shook hands and I was off and on the road by about 12:30 or so and heading east. I had no problems at all. made it Clarion, PA by 10:30 with a few stops along the way. It was pouring down rain and remembering all the deer I had seen on previous trips through this part of the country I decided to stop for the night. Woke up to a beautiful sunny morning, got cleaned up and some food in my belly and I was on the road again. I never had any problems maintaining speed in the hilly PA country side. And judging by all the dead deer on the side of the road, I think it was a good choice to stop the night before (I stopped counting when I hit thirty or so). Pulled into the driveway late Sunday afternoon to the "cool" of our kids wanting to see the new ride. Mrs. William is bugging me like crazy to drive it.....but I'm afraid I might lose it if she does......
As you can see in two of the photos, my very first mod is the installation of the "Bruno 5000" Security System.....constantly and silently patrolling the perimeter (with a Mossberg WatchDog as back up just in case).
Current Stats as received by me:
OME medium (Dakar) lift with OME shocks and steering stabilizer.
BFG 33x10.5x15's ALT's
Full size matching spare,
Tuffy console
Block heater
Hella 500 driving lights.
Recent Man-A-Fre Knuckle rebuild (including trunion bearings)
Recent top end re-build
Original tool kit
Tons of working spare original parts (with a few FJ40 parts thrown in for good measure)
Manuals: Haynes, 2F Engine, 2F Emissions, Chassis & Body repair manual, and of course...the SOR catalog.
Hey, thanks for reading!
William

Funny, my 60 is almost identical. Same color, same basic condition, same lift, same tires, stock rims, same lights in the bumper in the same place, add an ARB roof rack and they would be the same truck. Congrats on a great vehicle! Welcome back!

Before I sold the truck to William, the and I had a date in the local junkyard where I found a FJ62. So I grabbed the mirrors and the dash grab bar and put them on the 60. I had to drill two small holes, but otherwise it lined up real nice.
Glad to hear you made it home with no problems, William. I'm sure after driving all those miles you've come to realize that a pretty well-tuned 2F motor is no V8 but also no slouch. It looks nice out there in the country setting, much better than cooped up in an urban environment. Hopefully she's seen her last days of salty roads. It brings a tear to my eye thinking that my beloved big blue is gone, but I think she went to as good a new home as any. How's those legs after being packed in the front seat for 1000 miles?

Love the 5000, looks like he's in great shape. I drove my cruiser 1400 miles home from where I bought it, it's a great way to get to know your rig and figure out what can stand an upgrade (I would start with new foam or seats). There are many seat threads as you will soon find out.
Nice rig. Welcome to the 60's.

Thanks folks! I'm really liking her so far. All the credit for this nice rig goes to Rob. I just want to keep her maintained just as well as he did.
Rob, so true. A well tuned 2F is no speed demon, but it had more then enough power for passing and climbing the hills of PA and NY. Never bogged down at all, and cruising under 3000 RPM's I was able to steam along around 70 - 73 mph (corrected for the tire size) effortlessly. No complaints on the seats either. Even with my tree trunk legs I actually found the seats more comfortable then the all-leather-lumbar-supported-fully reclining -yada, yada, yada seats on our other cars. The only issue I had was my right heel going numb after four or five hours behind the wheel. That had more to do with my boots then the vehicle though.
Got the numbers today so yours will be off tomorrow Rob. I only filled and ran twice so you should be just fine.....I hope.
William

Hey folks, just adding some pictures I took for a cycling forum I hang out on. I figured this would be the best place for them. I made sure the 60 was in the pictures because I get some Cruiser love over there too. Actually, quite a few current and former 40 and 60 owners there. Rob, that's my Cross bike..."The Effin Cross Bike".

She still brings a tear to my eye. But she looks all at home in the country now. Did you do any touch up work to the rear quarters?

My 60's a fashion statement!!!!!
I just thought I would share (and add them to this page). Rob, the guy I bought my 60 from, found and sent some photos of our rig that were taken in a fashion shoot for a catalog magazine. Obviously taken before I bought her.

Lol, nice. I wish my rig was clean enough to end up it a fashion picture for a catalog. That right there says something about you're rig. Very cool.

Did it come with the cute blonde? Now that would be a cool mod.

It was a pretty sweet deal. $500 bucks to sit in a lounge chair reading a book in the Forest Preserve while cute chicks got their pics taken on my former truck. Plus most of the models were pretty cool and took a liking to the truck instantly.
