H55 sticky 5th gear after extended highway driving

Hi,

I took my fam for a little trip in the Land Cruiser on Saturday. My wife actually went from not liking the cruiser to liking it after the trip. Anyway, after about an hour of driving at about 110 kph we stopped. Once we continued on I noticed shifting into 5th gear was really sticky/firm feeling. No grinding. It did this most, but not all of the rest of the trip. Going to work today, 5th gear felt normal.

Anyone have any ideas?

Check fluid level in tranny?

How many miles on the H55F?

I didn't check the fluid level on the trip, although I wish I would've so it would save me from driving a long ways again. There's 320,000 km (or 198,838 miles) on the tranny. I changed the oil in the tranny a few months ago and checked the t-case. No leaks. But I do wonder about the possibility of that problem where oil leaks between the t-case and tranny.

Maybe the nylon bush at the bottom of the gearstick needs replacing or your shift forks are showing some wear.

My H55 has been in the truck a little over a year, and has always been a little sticky getting into 5th. It doesn't grind or make noise, it just takes more effort. It doesn't seem to matter how long I've been driving it.

I just assumed this was normal due to the extra linkage for the 5th gear.

Guess there's only so much I can do really. I'll start with the little things, and then just assume it's normal. It was my first long trip with it, so maybe it is normal.

It isn't right. I've had mine for over two years and it doesn't do anything like this. I would start with a gear oil change, and see what happens, and see how much metal is on the drain plugs. If it's older, it would be worth replacing the plastic collar in the shifter tower.

Mine has over 500,000km's and it doesn't give me any hassles. I didn't think that the H55 had the plastic ring but if it does that is certainly the FIRST thing to do!!
