| H42 to H55F upgrade, t-case question I drive a 1981 HJ60 (Aussie), with the H42, ~220K miles. Bad rear main seal, probably oil-soaked clutch, and a worn synchro on 3rd. Time for a new tranny...
Cruiserparts.net has the H55F (new in the crate) for $1850. With the seals, gaskets, clutch kit, driveshaft set and shifter set, it comes to ~$2400.
But, I am being told that I may need a new transfer case shifter and possibly a new (or rebuilt) t-case. Something to do with the oiler nipple. I've read a little on the subject but just don't understand. How could some of the t-cases have an oiler nipple and some not? If so, is it year specific? Other than pulling the t-case and looking for it, is there some other way to tell if I need to spend MORE money on a replacement t-case?
