gas filter on the manifold

hey guys.

quick question. does the gas filter screw all the way into the manifold until the bottom of the filter is flush with the top of the manifold?

i'm a bit gunshy, as i demolished my cylinder cover a few months ago by torqueing the cover screws way too much. the manual said to tighten those screws to 98 in. lbs. i misread and screwed 'em to 98 ft. lbs. ah, live & learn.

thx! – i

i think he's talking about #45 under the Vacuum Piping section of this SOR diagram.

http://www.sor.com/sor/cat048c.tam?xax=18759

i've seen this before and they do call it a gas filter but i really don't know what it does...

didn't drive the cruiser to work today but when i get home i can see how much thread is sticking out...

you could also use the old one as a reference for it should have "witness" marks that show how far the old one was screwed in.

No need to crank it down. It justs needs to seal.

i've never bothered to actually trace the vacuum lines to this "filter." does anybody know exactly what this thing is supposed to do? just curious...

It has a small filter in it and provides three connections for intake vacuum. It can get clogged up and cause the vacuum in the lines to be low. I had to clean mine once cause the vacuum was low and caused a valve not to open all the way.

The plastic body can leak sometimes. I would find a bolt to plug it straight at the manifold instead of using plugs in each hose.
