Any of you guys know why the O2 sensors plugs (from harness) on the rear are shaped this way The actual O2 sensors that came with the cats all four have square plugs.

Oh and any of you local to LA area know of a chevy wreck yard ?
I spent last weekend sourcing out some items but did not have much luck ....
Thanks in advance and cheers...

Hey Frank, the exhaust setup looks great! Is there a way you can get a picture from the back of the entire exhaust routing? I may be doing the same on mine. (By the way, I'm a little behind you. I am doing my knuckle rebuild right now and probably going to take my frame to get galvanized in the next 2 weeks or so. I got tired of trying to clean and paint the dang thing with a hand brush.)

So, here's the deal with the O2 sensors. On my setup, I've got two types of plugs, one set for before the cats, and one set for after the cats. So, I've got two different connectors, one that's square and one that's trapezoidal. (I'm pretty sure the set of connectors that's closer to the computer box is the set that goes before the cats.)

Now here's the real question, it seems as if you've got 4 O2 sensors that are the same with the square plug. Are the O2 sensors before the cats supposed to be the same as the O2 sensors after the cats? (Meaning can you just splice the wires and connect the O2 sensors that you've got?) Or are the pre-cat sensors different than the post-cat sensors?

Does anyone know? (Maybe Randy knows the answer to this one...)

And yes, the fuel pump is going to be loud...I'm going to look at an intank option myself...

Frank, I also have different O2 sensors/plugs front and rear, but mine is flat front/square rear - whereas yours is trapezoidal. I would try to get some sensors that match in any case so that your inspection goes well.

I used the Airtex E-2000 pump and it's not that bad, I hardly notice it. It also only cost $60 or so...

Been following your swap and must say that I am impressed. I am considering the same swap but want the h55 instead of the automatic. And was wondering if you still had your 5spd you were going to use?

5 speed was sold a long time ago.
I wanted to use it but being Im in Califas...due to smog regulations I need to keep the original tranny mated to the engine that it came with as it is consider part of the emissions. Dont know where you at but check with the state laws. Djawahir kept his but I think he has the option of registering the vehicle out of state.
I would of loved to keep my 5 speed but just couldnt'.

Dylan.... wow you going the extra mile with the frame dude !!
Re: sensors.. yeah I got 4 sensors to pre-cat and two post-cat.
The ones on the front are square and the ones on the back are pyramid like shaped plugs..... and as Shane stated.. I will probably go with the original deal... I found the trapezoid shape sensors but they are listed for 6.0 litter and not 5.3
Stealership here I come...

Dylan with the DBW pedal Im getting a better throtle response with the second pedal than with the one that came with the engine.....
Also, I want the ref to pass me and will keep it as clean as possible...

I think you'll find the front and rear O2 sensors have different style plugs / connectors. Looks good...much too clean though

Gracias Señor Randy !!!

Got to do some gas pedal work this weekend.. and I must say it came up much better than I expected and the welder I scored on ebay the other month welds like a champ !!!!
I was able to keep the pedal in the stock location using the existing holes. I just need to drill one more to make it more secure !!!

Here are some more.....
The pedal had to be welded on an angle away from the tranny hump...
Oh and this is not the pedal that originally came with the engine...as that was all plastic..... now Im waiting on a fuel pump and some O2 sensors extensions and also need 02 sensors for the front at least one as the wires were fried.....

Thanks guys...

Hey for reference purposes... and maybe all of you or most of you know this but I was in need of some parts and rather than going to the stealership or the autoparts store... I went to the Parts Retailer Locator | Service/Maintenance | ACDelco for parts and was able to score two O2 sensors for the front and the Solenoid Electrical plug Part #PT250 for the evaporation canister for $100.00. waaaaaay cheaper than stealership and gmpartsdirect.com.... just thought you guys doing these crazy swaps may want to know !!!!

Anyways.. yeah re: the weld.... I was very surprised about how nice and clean it came out !!!

Laters,

Frank

I buy some parts from Rock Auto.com, they have some GM stuff depending on the year model. Plus generally they have pictures that are useful at times. I stay clear of the local GM shop unless its something I need that day. Looks good. Its amazing how long it takes to get all the little things like you want them.

Ok guys I drove it today after getting the 02 sensors extensions in the mail.. It did its thing... engine light came on and once it cranked engine light went off... I drove it up and down the street a couple of times but then the engine light came on... it started to idle rough and drove it back home.. it stalled a couple of times but it cranked right up.... I plugged the scanner and it read a P200 code... which I see it has to do with the injection system... I read up on it and it says it could be many things.... now the fuel pump is really noisy I hope that is the case and I will change it when I get back into town.. Im off to Tahoe till Sunday....
Im also wondering if I have the fuel lines mixed up. Yah know, plug the return line into the fuel pump...

what say you guys ?? Any ideas what it may be?? The engine is got only 40 miles. I hope is not something big ...

hopefully it's just a bad pump and that a new one cures it...

P200 is an injector code usually bad fuel pressure (too low). We need to check the fuel lines and be sure you did not hook the return line up as the feed line. If that is OK then we need to check the pump. I know you have a noisy pump. Sometimes that is caused by too much air in the like (Example: you hooked up the return line instead of the feed line) I get this noise on my pump when I am running very low on fuel.

The P200 is a generic code for poor injection (injector misfire). A P201 would tell you you have a bad injector on #1 (or a misfiring injector) A P202 would be for cyl #2 and so on.....

So Frank you left out the best part! Did it run like a raped ape? Once we get it all fixed we will drag race. (Maybe some sand drags at Surf N' Turf)

Relax and enjoy Tahoe, it is awesome this time of year. I will see you Monday and we will get your Tahota running correctly.

L8
