Transmission symptoms and remedies

My 84 60 with 207000 runs pretty well. But lately the tranny has gone downhill. First my sychro goes out, so I've been double-clutching into 3rd. Now sometimes it grabs or grinds going down into 2nd. In 4th at full speed (~60mph) their is light whine coming through the floor. Not too loud, but noticed. My question is, should I rebuild the tranny and transfer, buy used tranny online, start saving for 5 speed, or keep driving? Any suggestions welcome. Regards

David Halterman

Where are you located.? There are alot of cheap 4 speeds that have been pulled for 5 speed upgrades. I would buy a used 4 speed and change it out. It is just going to get worse.

I am located in Durango, Colorado. Not sure of reputable LC mechanics in the area.

Try Proffitt. They might have some used 4speeds or http://www.cruiserparts.net/

I have a good 4-speed out of my '83: make me an offer.
