Pics of my HJ60 painted with tremclad(rustoleum)
Hey Guys I just wanted to post some pics of my HJ60 painted with tremclad, I believe it it the same as rustoleum in the states.
This paint has extreemly good coverage, and 3/4 of a gallon painted the truck with 2.5 full coats.
Flaws in the paintjob are due to my lack of painting skill and not the paint.
I sprayed (not rattlecan) it on with a hvlp gun , after lightly sanding the truck, I painted outside behind a tarp, in about a 2-4mph wind.
I will probably add fender flares in black, to accent the truck.

Total cost of paintjob, <$40, plus my time.
Overall I wish i had darkened the paint more, but it turned out well.

Hey right on. I used Tremclad on my 60. But I rolled it and wet sanded.
If you want to shine it right up...get some 1500 grit and wet sand it for few hours. Be careful on the edges as it will wear thru quickly. Then afterwards use some polish and buffer and it will shine like crazy.
Right on!

no I am in the process of doing so, I painted the body minus the doors last fall. The doors right now. It has not seen sun yet.
I imagine it will be ok. But will need polishing from time to time. I actually use tremclad to paint propellers on the plane I maintain. And it hold up ok.
I think brighter colours though are known to fade. Like red/blue etc.

Ill keep everyone updated on the paintjob, if it fades ill let you know.
I was aiming for a dark blue, I mixed a quart of dark blue, a half pint of aluminium, and 2 half pints of black, and that is the colour you see.
If I do it again in blue, Ill do a quart of blue a quart of black and a half pint of aluminium.
I think im gonna paint my Daily driver mercedes with tremclad as well.

I read another thread at a mopar site and the guy painted a VW beetle with the rol on tremclad(as well as a nice charger) and he had to repaint the VWs front fender due to some damage or something like that. He went to the store and bought the same color. And it matched the color of the old paint perfectly. The paint had been on the car for 6 years.

Icefire,
I Believe rustoleum(tremclad) makes a really dark navy blue. Not exactly sure about this though.

I read the same thread, used his method exactly. It works really good. But it does take a long time to do a 60 this way. lots of nooks and grannies to get paint smoothly in.
If you have the ability to spray, I say spray. Then do all the wetsanding. But if you are in a dusty spot or cannot spray due to lack of equipment the rolling method does work nicely.

I will be doing my chop top 60 this way. I am also "painting" the lower half with bedliner so I will not have a huge surface to paint. I am going to take it one part at a time finishing one spot(minus the buff and shine)and then going on to the next area.
the write up will definatly be in the "lunyous budget cruiser build up."

yeah I used the dark blue, but as soon as I added the aluminium pigment to it, it got really light, I tried adding 2 cans of black, but it was still to light.
