I am surprised this radiator still functioned properly.

It must be the original radiator.

Because of the addition of a/c, I will be upgrading to a 4 core.

The 62 radiator wont work because of the dual battery trays.... it is too wide.

The inlet/ outlets are also in the wrong place.

I will need another t stat housing that points to the drivers side for the new radiator.

Unlike other Toyota motors, you can't flip it 180* to point the opposite way.

The 81 model bj60 has a t sat housing pointing to the passenger side.

The 82+ models point to the drivers side.

The change was made to allow p/s to be mounted on the 3b.

These pictures were taken at night. Sorry for the low resolution.

I'll snap a few more detailed pictures in the day light.

The painted engine compartment turned out really nice.

Special thanks to Gunner and his neighbor Frank.

Frank is in charge of the welding.

Gunner has been providing much needed automotive experience and expertise.

My truck is out side his shop.

These two can just about repair ANYTHING.

Gunner has done cruiser v8 conversions and some cruiser restorations.

His forte is RX7s.

Frank is a metal fabricater.

Note my 10thAE RX7 on his rack.

Here is the 60s pedal bucket.

It is required to add a manual transmission to a 62..

The 62 pedal bucket is missing the provisions for the clutch pedal and master.

While the dash is out, I will also be installing the diesel gauges in the 62 cluster.

The gauges bolt in the 62 dash.

Hopefully the guages sub harness will swap over as well.

After 3 hours of scrubbing, the transmission and transfer are clean.

Note Ih8mud salute.

JohnnyBoy- I am keeping the squares.

I always liked the 62 lights.

There is no good sheet metal on the bj.......

even the core support couldn't be reused.

(sorry AL)

I pulled the entire fuel system from the bj60. (note mud salute).

After a good cleaning, I will be installing the bj60 tank, hard lines and sedimeter in the 62.

I had the hard lines sandblasted. (ends covered)

They are now primed and ready for paint.

When removing the 62 hard lines, I found a good amount of gasoline left in them.

I am glad I decided to pull/swap the lines.

The 3b doesn't like gasoline.

This is a sure fire way to get "ALL" of the gasoline out.

The insides of my bj60 tank look brand new.

It must ahve been replaced at some time.

There is some surface rust on the exterior.

I don't want to risk getting sand inside so blasting isn't an option for removing the surface rust.

I am cleaning it up with a wire brush, applying oshpo rust converter.

After all that, the tank will be primed and painted.

Although it looks like some sort of a ritual, the candles are there to keep

thirsty female mosquitos at bay.

Gunnar had a 86 toyovan triple crank pulley on his shelf.

He removed the 2 front pulleys from it and fitted them to my 3b pulley.

The center hole of the toyovan and 3b pullys are the EXACT same size.

The toyovan pulleys have four holes and my 81 bj crank pulley only has 2.

This required drilling and taping 4 holes in the 81 3b pulley.

This was done before the crank pulley was removed from the 3b.

I did not have the 3b main pulley sandblasted. The sand blaster didn't recommend doing so because of it's rubber internals.

I now have a triple crank pulley. (completed pulley pics to follow)

This is a great way to make a triple 3b pulley from an 81 single pulley.

Triple 3b pulleys are pretty rare, and usually not cheap.

I have heard that some p/s and a/c parts interchange between the toyovan and the 3b.

I haven't found any used toyo vans to scavage parts from...... yet!

I have mucho painting to get done.

I purchased a $59 (37)piece gravity fed paint gun system from Wal Mart.

It is complete with 2 guns and is a step up from my old gun.

Learning to paint has been trial and error thus far....... and fun.

I am looking forward to more "practice".

I like Rustoluem oil based paints and have had great results using them in the past.

The are readiliy availible and reasonably priced.

I will be using Rustoluem semi gloss black, gloss smoke, satin black, hammered black and hammered silver.

I swear, the difference a coat of paint makes is always incredible.

Keep it up, you are gonna have a sweet rig when the dust settles.

Frank removed the 3b mounts from the bj today. Thanks Frank!

He will be sandblasting and welding them to the 62 frame.

There are existing holes on both sides of the frame.

This allows the steering box to be mounted on either side.

Measurements were taken from the rear steering box holes, to the engine mount locations.

The drivers side mount is 7" from the rear steering box holes.

The passenger side mount is 5 13/16 " from the rear steering box holes.

The tank, pedal bucket and battery trays were primed then painted with hammered Rustoleum black.

There isn't much left of the rusty bj60.

Looking like some serious progress. When do you drop in the 3B into the 62?

My roof supplier fell of the face of the Earth. In the next two weeks I drive to to Atlanta to pick up a body from an '88 62, from which I will cut off the roof for Sheila. Fenders might be good for recycling too.
This one cost me $300, but I'll have the entire body to pull parts and sheet matal from.

Let me know when you're ready to show me your progress, I'm eager to see it...

just amazing. Can you swap pedal buckets w/o pulling dash out. For example if I was doing a a440f to h55f conversion in my petrol 62. Isint the clutch master cyl mount on the firewall, I don't recall seeing any unused holes around there.

you are doing some great work here, keep it up. -nate-

The dash must come out to swap the pedal buckets.

The fire wall has indentations for the clutch master hole.

You must drill a hole.

I used my new paint gun on underside of the 62 today.

Only the under body, not the frame, is being painted silver.

Even though a pressure washer and a steam cleaner were previously used,

I opted to hand scrub the entire underside with soap and water before painting.

The under body is looking good.

I still need to paint frame and do a complete detailing.

The rig has SE regional "toyoguard" protection.

They didn't remove any of the drive line when it was applied,

so it covers most of the underside. See 2nd & 3rd pic.

The "toyoguard" protection is in very good condition so, I painted over it.
