fj62 engine
just wondering if all fj62's had a 3FE, and 4:10 gears? even the early one like 1987?

'87s are still FJ-60's in NA and use the 2F. The 62's came out in '88 and use the 3F-E.

Nope.......I have a 87 fj62 that came out in October. I believe they started making the "squares" in September. But yeah I have a 3FE with a auto tranny. oh and I have 4.11 gears

An October 1987 build date is not an '87. It's an '88. The model change over date is 1 September. Only exception was 1974 and 1978 models. Thiose carried through 'til December.
You have a 1988 FJ62.

And yes, all US market FJ62s have the 3FE, A440F and 4.11:1 gearing (not 4.10, that came with the FJ80s).

Thank you for finally saying it! These geniuses with their build dates! Agreed x1000, some dimb bulb the other day was saying that his "late 87 FJ60 has an automatic" Good God ya'll!

thanx guys, because im picking up a 1987fj 62 for a parts truck i wanted to know what i was getting, the owner doesnt know much about it so i asked the experts

well this "dimb bulb" knows the difference between a 60 and 62. However you look at it....my 62 was built in 87. You wanna get all dealership about it...then its a 88.
oh and don't you mean dim??

In South Africa we got 3F motors - that's with distributor and carb - in 60's until '90...

Dimb...Dohb! your 62 is an 88. There are no 87 FJ62's built in the states, period. Oh, and back at ya!

I have an 87 built fj62, it is considered a 88. It has 3fe, a440f, 4.11 gears. I think the main difference in the 62s is that almost all of the later models had power windows and locks, mine is early and it does not have power win/locks.
