| Grind when engaged 4wd.... damage? As I was turning out onto the main snow cover street I hit the 4wd button while turning... It made a clicking/grinding sound and I immediately stopped and turned off the button. Once straightened out it engaged perfectly like normal but I'm paranoid about the possible damage I could have done. It's killing me b/c I always do something retarded when trying to talk on my cell and drive. I totally know better and was lecturing my wife on when to use 4wd just yesterday. So what kind of damage could have been done? What symptons should I look for? Why am I so retarded?

| does the grinding still happen now? did you try to align, and then reengage?
Does having the wheels turned just not allow the transfer gearing to properly align when egaging 4wd? |

| how bad was the grinding? like when you try to shift without depressing the clutch far enoug? or like a shot glass in the garberator? if you were turning sharp the chance of one of your front wheels spinning close to the right speed to mesh is quite slim.

I've always assumed 60 series are just like 40s and 80s in that they have a mechanical activation (stick) vs electrical (button). Although 80s only sort-of count since they are AWD (mostly).

I think this was the early version of on the fly 4wd activation like in my 4runner. |

| The FJ62s have a push button switch which vacuum operates the 4WD. After locking the hubs, you can press the buttom for 4-High. For 4-Low you can either press the 4-High button and shift the High-Low shifter into Low and you will have 4-Low or you can just shift the High-Low shifter into Low without the 4-High button pressed and it will automatically activate the 4WD vacuum mechanism. This is all assuming that everything is working correctly.

| Just got done with a 5 hour adventure to retreive my wife. Drive usually takes 20 min. or an hours tops with snow.... but someone in a bling suv thought that 4wd meant you can drive as fast as you want. Seems the 4wd is operating normally and I havent heard anymore grinding when engaging or making a sharp turn. I'm going to pretend it never happend.
