cylinder head job

hi,

i just had the cylinder head of a fj60 rebuilt. i was about to put it all back together when i noticed there was a long vertical scratch in the 2nd cylinder bore. is this scratch a problem or do i need to pull the piston & hone this bore? if so, can this piston be pulled with the block still in the vehicle?

also, since i'm already down there, i was thinking of replacing the water pump. should i go oem or will any water pump do? any suggestions? thnx everybody!

BE

If you can catch the scratch with your fingernail it will definitely affect compression, and I would do something about it.

I have seen a bunch a motors with LARGE scratches in a cylinder.. It is not a good thing, but honestly, the motor can deal with it.
How bad is the scratch?? (pics would help)
What you might want to watch out for is why the scratch is there.. I would really try to figure that out..

I have ran aftermarket water pumps for years.. Are they as good? probably not, but they work. Is yours leaking?

i would never hone a block with it still in the truck much less still assembled. think of all the itty bitty tiny metal particles you are removing when you hone something... then think of them in your oil and bearings and seals.... yea no dice.
