| I have roughly the same setup, with a head unit powering the 4 door speakers. Mine is a 12"
Nothing to win any contests, but it sounds good, or since that is relative, MUCH better than stock...

| I've had great luck with the Alpine amps - reliable and can take a beating... I've never used the alpine subs, but I've used a variety of JL Audio subs with great success every time (FWIW).
Have fun with the install and post up some pics.
Also, do a search on amplifier mounting, there are some great pictures of mounting an amp behind the drivers side interior panel in the rear cargo area.

| Elemental design makes an OEM 12" that kicks pretty hard, and for $40! I have one of their 8" subs now and it sounds great to me. |

| Thats alot of $ for a sub and an amp, but to each his own. Use the company you trust, mine just happens to be eBay I got my entire system deck, amp, cap, door speakers, wiring, and JL 12w3 sub off of there for $250 shipped a few years back.
I would stay away from Alpine subs, I had some back in the day (late 90's), they lasted 2 days b/f the cone seperated.
I used to have subs in the back of my 62, but started offroading more and they just took up space. I plan on making a box for the side panel and installing one there one day.
Whatever you do post up your install its always great seeing others ideas.

| Full alpine system running 4 in the door, and a subwoofer and amp. Sounds great and at any sane volume level is all I would ever need.

| I went with a 500W Zapco (the reference 500.1). It is an order of magnitude on quality over the Alpine, but about twice the price new. I got one off ebay for about what you're looking at paying for the Alpine. It never seems to work hard- way more amp than the sub can handle. Driving a Infinity Perfect 10.1d dual-voice for now. Should have done 12.
It is more of a musical combo than a punch style setup, and I think that's more of a characteristic of the sub. The amp just has to keep up.
Be sure to size your power and ground wire accordingly! |

| I have a Jensen amp (not so expensive) that I've had for 5 years or so it's a 4 channel 1000 watt and I think it cost about 300 at the time at SEARS. Thing has not failed me yet. It replaced a SONY X-PLOD amp (there's a reason they named it that lol) that lasted 3 months. Lot's of adjustments and easy to dial in great for the money. Alpine does make good stuff, I think youll be happy. I especially love their head units. Worth the cash for sure, I just got lucky on my cheap buy. I do reccomend buying from Sears (if they are in your area) because their extended warranty is not much, I think I paid ten bucks or so for it and they replaced my sony amp without a reciept, box or anything. I also run old Fosgate punch xlc subs (3 of them) and they have survived 3 car wrecks, 5 trucks, and a lot of other abuse no sub should have to deal with. Just my thoughts. I mounted my amp to the backrest of my back seat up and out of the way for plenty of air flow. My truck is louder than sin and can adjust for anything from Willy Nelson to hip hop.

| This is an old thread of mine. It felt unfinished and now I have something to post.
Went with a package from Crutchfield. Alpine package with 2 12's, box, and amplifier for 280. then the wiring kit tacked it up to 350. Really worth it for the ease of keeping your head on straight. Took me and my brother about 2 hours. Not bad for our first time.

Could you post some pictures of it? Did you build it, or buy it? From where? Thanks! |

| Nice I just bought a new 500RMS Alpine Sub amp and mated it to a Type-R, one word WOW! It is almost too much, gains down and amp control all the way down and it is monstrous! Perfect for all music, it has actually proved to be quite a musical sub. Alpine in my book has always received high marks!

| I don't think I'll miss the space that much. I'm a teenager and I don't have big things to move around.

| I remember those days. As long as the front seat was open I was good. Hvae kid #3 on the way now so space is a premium! Only reason I took my sub box out was b/c I started camping more often and pulling it in and out got on my nerves. (I've only driven my 62 about 10K miles in the 4 yrs I have owned it.)
Looks like you have a nice set-up. I am sure it sounds a lot better, esp if you listen to anythign like I did back in the day. (My hearing now at 27 is to pay for that.) Cant tell ay how many times my fam told me that I would have hearing issues, bu tnow I certainly know. But we all know when you are a teenager no one can tell you anything.
Keep us posted if you upgrade anythign else.
