BAD DISTRIBUTOR? What are the signs?

I am suspecting/guessing that my distributor may be on the fritz. What do I look for as far as symptoms are concerned?

The motor is freshly tuned (see my recent post for emissions help) and the timing and idle speed have been set to Toyota spec. The truck feels and sounds as though it is missing, experiences a complete loss of power at 1500 RPM but then recovers if engine speed can move above this RPM mark. It has become totally gutless at highway speeds although it starts and idles normally.

This is a new problem as the truck has been running great up to this point. I'm guessing that it could also be vacuum related.

Any goods thoughts or suggestions out there?
Thanks in advance,
-dogboy- '87 FJ60

THe secondary vacumm diapragm on the side of the carb can give those symptoms
Mine use to happen at 1800 rpm.

Thanks, but I got 2 now and I have to share my lovin with both
My new cruiser.

Also does it run crap up to 1500,I was thinking maybe a vac leak around the carb base or manifold to head area.

But if it only runs crap as the secondary stage cuts in then the diaphragm is the likely culprit
