SNT Post Maintenance
Went to SNT and had a BLAST. As many have already said… Good people, great event, and fun times!!! Met a lot of great people and the best part was nobody to me to stop talking about landcruisers!!
A quick story (non SNT related)…
I was on my way home in rush hour traffic the other night and my 60 started twitching... got worse and worse... then the clutch pedal dropped to the floor. Wrestled her to the side of the road, received a few middle finger salutes, and then inspected. Master cylinder drained... leaky drip marks on the front ds. Sure enough... the slave just popped! I was paying by the minute for daycare so, I had to get there and was still a total of 10 miles from home and an 1 hour late...$$$$. Okay... started her in first to get off the freeway, then started her in second to get a little farther down the road, and then finally stopped and started her in third. Picked up the little one... stopped for gas (yeah.. all I needed was to run out of gas in this whole situation) wash, rinse, repeat... I was home. I tried filling up the master with a little fluid and booosh... just shoots out.. the slave was toast.
I replaced the clutch mc about 2 years ago from cuiserparts... forgot to order a new slave and get it switched out. New mc and slave should be here today. Thanks CruiserDan!
On to my question…
When I was under there pulling the slave off I noticed a bunch of sand in my crossmember and just generally all over everything under there. There is some sludge in places and just regular road grime but, the sand seems to stick to it quite well. I thought I did a thorough job of pressure washing her the day we got back (careful not to harm anything of course) but, there is still sand. This is my DD… I have not changed any oils since the trip and want to keep her as nice as possible but conscious of the dollars.
What type of maintenance should I do after a few days in the sand?
Any “you should do it tonight” type tasks?
Thanks!

i must have caught your sickness. my clutch master started blowing out this weekend as well. you must've ordered the set that CDan had in shop. i had to have mine shipped overnight so i can fix it this weekend. jerkie. :P
sorry i don't have any specific ideas for the sand problem, but figured i would commiserate. was just getting ready to post up here for any pointers before i tackled the project this weekend.
good luck with the yours!

That was me... Cdan is the best! He was slammed and way behind when I talked to him. He still got my order shipped! (thanks again!)
I think the process is very straight forward. 4 bolts total and a cotter (sp?) pin. The hardest part is bleeding the setup by yourself :shaking: . One tip I noticed when taking off the slave – the hose that screws into slave doesn’t have a swivel on the end (or maybe mine is frozen). I would screw it in before you mount it.
(anyone, please chime in if I missed anything... low tech mechanic here)
Good luck!

Thanks Dylan. I remembered chatting with you... liked your cruiser as well. Whenever I see a SO rig I get jelouse!
I think I am going to shoten the washer end and get under there with some goggles or maybe some pressure fitting for the end of a hose.

Did you leave a little play where the slave rod attaches to clutch fork? I was told to leave about 1/8" to keep pressure off the throw-out bearing. So far so good.

Sounds like SNT was awesome. I tried to make it but couldn't this year.
I would pump up the pedal and then stick a 2x4 and wedge it aganist the seat to hold pressure on it while I cracked the valve to bleed it.Did that a few times and worked fine.
I still got that EGR hose for you.

I will try that when I put it in tonight. THat might explain a little noise I had in the tranny. I will see how it sounds after the instdall.
