Hj60 Better Brakes

I have fiitted a 5.7l ls1 and 4l60 transmission to my hj61 landcruiser. I am running 15 inch rims with 33 inch tyres. The brakes are not very efficient. There is nothing wrong with them. I was wondering the best way to upgrade them. Is the a good rear disc brake conversion for them? Does anyone know if the 80 series barke booster has more force and could it be fitted to a 60 series. Also could the 80 series rear brakes be adapted to fit?
Any help please
Thanks from Matt

The stock brakes on my '84 with 5.7 Vortec, 4L60E, & 33s are more than adequate. But then I spent time to get the rears working again after discovering the park brake didn't work (which pointed to frozen bell cranks which I'd already been through on my '83).

Standard response on improved brakes is: 4runner calipers up front, T100 MC, & Eldo conversion in back.

Search & ye shall find.

How is the T100 MC compared to the FJ80 MC?

Just did '90 IFS front calipers and the FJ80 MC on the 62 and they work great. Super simple mod and a great reason to get an air dremel to enlarge the dust shield opening.

Some day I'll get to the rear brakes.

most who upgrade brakes use four runner calipers and a master cylinder from a t-100. also you can upgrade to rear discs but you will need calipers from a cadillac or something if you still want an e-brake. and apparently the disc brake e-brake isnt a very strong grabbing setup.

Thanks for your advise. The reason the 12ht had to go is because it was too gutless and used way too much diesel Averaged around 18 liters per hundred. It was an automatic 12ht turbo diesel. The new engine and transmission is a 2002 5.7 ls1 engine from a holden commodore. The engine has 260kw compared to the 106kw from the 12ht. This engine produces more torque at 1600rpm the the 12ht . The Transmision is adapted to the toyota transfer case using a marks 4wd adaptor. Fuel consumption aroud town is 17 liters per hundred and on a long trip I have got it down to 11 liters per hundred kilometers. I also changed the instrument cluster to a holden commodore cluster. The diesiel engine use to get too hot on the sand and the auto temp light would also come on. I fitted a different radiator with twin thermo fans. The ls1 engine temp guage never goes above halfway. with the same external trans cooler which is also plumbed through the new radiator, on a 30 kilomter beach drive only got to 90 degress c . on the same test a 2003 patrol overheated twice, a 2004 hilux overheated once and a holden jackaroo overheated,

The 80 series master cylinder has a larger bore and works better. The calipers from a hzj ute or troopy will fit if you mod the backing plate and may need a spacer washer to give a bit more clearance. Also the slotted DBA rotors are a good mod, better pedal feel and work better. Also the 100 series pads will fit in these with minor mods also. cheers
