high fequency whine fron fuel tank?

When I sart up the 62 I hear this incredibly high pitched low volume and intensely agrivating EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound. It's not a whine perse... sounds almost like it's electrical, but fir all intents and purposes we can call it a whine.

the sound does not happen until the engine has started and is idling. I can hear it kick on and wind down as I hit the ignition and turn it off. The sound does not change pitch too much and does not change with rpm increases. It is just an annoying madenning SCREEEEEEEEEEE that I hear constantly as I am driving. It leaves my ears ringing for hours.

The whine is definitely coming from the fuel tank. I put a stethascope to the tank and I could clearly hear the whine get louder. I could not hear the whine at all when I listened to the exhaust or engine components. The fuel pump is less than 1 year old. Anyone ever experienced this? It's driving me and especially the dogs nuts.

Strange.

Even though your fuel pump is only a year old, I still believe that is the culprit. There really isn't much else to make that "electrical" noise from that area. Sometimes your luck is just bad and you get a lemon pump.

agreed, that's the only thing in there.
Did you replace it with an OEM pump?

Hey guys-

Thanks for responding. Yes, it is an oem pump. Oy Vey! I guess it's going to have to wait until Spring.
