Unhappy HELP

I was driving my car down the road and, all the sudden a high pitched squeal occured so I pulled over and steam is shooting out of the front of the car and water was coming from the water pump area. There was also a low grumble that we beleive was caused by the loose fan rubbing on the belts. Anyone had this problem before? Please help me, my 60 is on the side of the road, and if I can fix it why take it to the mechanic?

Have you looked at the thermostat housing itself? They ususally develop a hole after a while and it will shoot coolant all over the place. If so get a new one from Toyota.

The high pitch squeal sounds like something seized up. Can you turn the water pump by hand with the belt off? Smog pumps are more likely to seize up, but that should be on a separate belt. It is possible that the water pump seized, so check that first.

So by that statement!! you don't run antifreeze mix? as in "coolant" or did you just hit a water puddle and splash some water on your belts?

By bad, it was leaking coolant, and we put water back in to see if we could get it back home.
