Carb Idle screw adjustment

I am putting a used OEM carb on my 60. Just noticed the Idle adjustment screw is turned out about 8 turns. The motor idles fine but I just wondered if this many turns out was a good starting point toward fine tuning the carb? What is the normal range for turns out on these carbs? Thanks.

That sounds high. The book has you start at 2 turns out but 3 worked better for me. I stick a small screwdriver on the idle mixture screw and then stick the filter back on so everything is normal. You want to bring up the idle as high as possible with idle mixture screw and then turn down the idle speed to about 650 with the ilde speed screw. Keep repeating both until the speed does not increase adjusting the idle mixture screw. I also hook up a vacuum guage and then screw it in a tad until the vacuum starts to decrease and then back off at the end a tad.
