read the thread. This isn't a fs thread. He is developing an idea in the TECH forum. It may later be for sale in the FOR SALE forum. For now he is making a list of folks who may be interested, pending final info like price.
Folks, help me out here. Toyota TECH Forum

Hummm, good question, hadn't thought about that. I think I will PM people when their names come up, that way things might move along quicker.

What are your thoughts on some weather stripping between the door and frame? So if the tailgate is open in the rain, it could stay a little drier. Just a thought.

How often, and why, do you leave your tailgate open in the rain?

Not very often, mainly I just end up spilling beer all over it but I didn't want everyone to hear that and get the wrong impression . DON'T JUDGE ME!
My dogs, on the other hand, do transport a fair amount of water accross it.
Do you think a hi-lift jack would fit in the tailgate?
Ben

Ah, I see. There is not any provision for a weather-strip welt, and I can not see a simple way to incorporate one off the top of my head. I will think about it though, you might just have to get a sippy cup for your beer instead.

I was feeling quite proud of myself until I saw this photo and realized that it does not really look that impressive.

I'm impressed. . . . I want one. One thing I was gonna ask you Kevin, is do you hear and rattling back there or is it taken care of with careful packing?

Thanks, lets hope I can make them look like more of something today.
I have not been able to notice any rattling and I have not been at all careful while packing it. The box itself is not likely to rattle because the coating I put on it has some dampening properties.
I do think it is imperative that sound deadening be applied to the inside of the tailgate. Not only to clean it up, but to make sure the contents do not rattle against the outer body skin. There is really no reason not to, access is so east once the inner panel has been cut out.
With sound deadening on the body panel and rubber coating on the lid, your stuff is basically in a padded envelope.

Well, got a bit further today. My plan was to get the labor intensive stuff done and finish them off in the evenings during the week. I did just that, but 10 is too many for one weekend!
Went well but I will not do it like that again.

I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed watching the evolution of this thread and the storage box/gate. I love events like this. Someone has a skill and a great idea. They share there knowledge and skill and hopefully make a little coin....not like Bill Gates rich or anything....but worth their while.
I also feel compelled to confess that watching this thread was the final straw in me deciding to get a welder and learn how to weld
Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!
oh and get onto the 2nd 10 as I don't have a welder or mad skills yet!!!
Tim

Um,....I make no claims pertaining to increased performance due to tailgate box installation.
Oh and, BillyGHusk, flattery will not get you your box any sooner.
My paint supplier at work hooked me up with an undercoat/chip guard spray setup today and I did some experiments this evening. The spray pattern super consistent, sprays a perfect texture every time.
It was a lot easier than the aresol rubberized cans I have been using, but my first impression is that the coating from the cans is more durable.
The new spray setup is really pretty, but my inclination is to go with durable over pretty, but I will see how the samples hold up under some tests tomorrow.

Well, while the undercoat setup from my paint dealer sure was pretty, it was just not as strong as the Castle coating.
I have been severely abusing the Castle stuff and it has been holding up very well, so even though the spray pattern can be a bit inconsistent, I am going to stick with what held up to my tests.
That can of Castle undercoat I posted on page 4 is the most durable thing I have found that is available to regular shops. Anybody looking for a good aresol can rubberized undercoating should give that a shot, blows all the big names out of the water.

From your first post.
Kinda snowballed from there didn't it?
Great work! Something I might be interested in once I get my rig working 100%.
