I've got the full mechanical advance one in mine. It was originally a dual point, and it sucked royally. It wore the points really quick, and performance was really not that great. It was in the truck when I bought it. A few years back I put a pertronix in it and it instantly was 1000 times better. At some point early last season the roll pin holding the gear on the shaft came/wore almost completely out and it gave my truck constantly variable ignition timing, which was interesting. I honestly wasn't sure what was wrong with the truck, some days it ran OK, some days it ran terrible, but the oil burning issue it always had got to the point it was embarrassing to drive, so I pulled the motor for a rebuild, and discovered the gear. So if yours all of a sudden starts running funny, I would check the gear.
