I have seen a lot of auto parts come out of the box with little tiny slivers and chips of metalclinging onto them. Also, I have seen old (but not new) fuel lines with the fiber re-inforcement starting to break down. Now that stuff looks just like hair. I suppose that it could of come out of the filter closer to the carb. Nowdays the filters are probably made right next door to the barber shop. John
