Yes, just saying prep and paint as normal, but use a single stage acrylic enamel like the factory did.
Then you can wet sand, stopping short of the superfine steps, and get a less-shiny, but still not dull finish.
I'm very happy with DuPont Nason Ful-Cryl II. In my experience, if you use their recommended hardener, even freshly sprayed, it doesn't have the ultra-mega-superwet-exotic-turbodeep-nitrogloss look... It kind of looks like fresh old-school Toyota truck paint.
I planned on doing the wet sand routine I just recommended to you on the 40 I'm painting now, but I'm really happy with the way its turning out using the Nason as recommended... not trying to slam them... I like the "new" old-school truck look.
Just be careful, because it is an economy line, and the Nason hardener (483-11 Cat II Catalyst) is more expensive than the el-cheapo "wet look" hardener. Don't let the paint supply store do you the favor of saving you money by steering you into the cheaper bling-bling hardener. Buy the 483-11 if you go with Ful-Cryl.
