When i got my mini truck's transmission in I pulled the shifter cover plate off the transfer case and drilled and taped the right sized hole in it. Stuck a 90 degree hose barb in it. Ran the line up into the top corner of the engine compartment. For the transmission I had them put the vent hole in. In mini trucks they normally vent through the shifter boots.

The FJ62 transfer has a vent on the top, with about 3/4" clearance between it and the body pan. It's not really high enough for deep water crossings. If you have the transfer apart it's an easy thing to remove the factory vent and replace it with a 90° elbow barb nipple.
