exhaust replacement 74 fj

Hello all,
I just got temporary tags and have to get my fj inspected. Problem is my muffler is rusted out. I figured as long as I was at it the whole exhaust from the header back looks like it could be replaced.

Anyway, I saw that SOR had the parts, but was curious if anyone had used them and what their opinion was. I wasn't thinking of the kit, but buying the pieces...

I guess my first question is do I need a welder? from the diagram

http://www.sor.com/sor/cat046.tam?xa...x=cat046%2Etam

it doesn't appear so... but I wasn't sure...

Thanks in advance
Dave

I have the SOR exhaust on my 73 and it is fine. I have only had it for 2 years so I can not attest to how long it will last. The nice thing about it is that it goes in just like the stock one so it is an easy job. It also tucks up out of the way to avoid damage offroad. You do not "need" a welder, just clamps. A sawzall makes the job go much quicker.

It's all clamp together, but you may have small exhaust leaks.

Any good muffler shop can make you an exhaust system, and get it bent up and out of the way. They typically aren't that expensive. I spent $150 to go from the pipe off the exhaust manifold to the rear tailpipe.

They did a good job in about an hour.
