I just picked up a used set of Ross's U-Bolt plates last week, but I'm more than likely gonna hang onto them for the 45. Should have thought of that before I sold off the old kit.

The design is a simple upside down tophat shape that wraps around the spring pack, bringing the u-bolt nuts alongside the leafs. Ross' parts look like they could have been made a little beefier, but I never had one fail on me for the years that I ran them on the 40.

The Astro stuff that showed up on Pirate looked promising, but I didn't follow up on it so I can't really comment on that.

And as far as flex goes, I've got the same problem as treeroot:

ONLY $499. FOR A PAIR!!!!

why spend that kinda $$ on a shackle that will unload on inclines?

a good spring mod will get you where you want to be.

Alcan 4" springs, longer shackles...all I was running on my piggie...

not bad flex...better shackle angles would have helped. definitely reccomend them.

I've handled them and driven a truck with them installed. (DD113's FJ62)

They are top notch, and not like any other "revolver"shackles out here.

That said, i still don't know if I would spend the money on them.

Superior's website info does not mention their shackles' behavior on inclines. I can't see how their not like Revolvers off road.

I do like the lock-out pins for on road travel stability, though I'd like to know if the shackles rattle around their pins while driving with them locked for road use.

The ConFerr-type U bolt skidplates really aren't a bad way to go. They take a heap of abuse and rarely are the cause of getting hung up. Once you get used to using them for their intended purpose [and stop getting freaked out by the smack and grind] you'll be alright.

I might consider putting a set on my 45 instead of the Advance Handling ones, since the 45 isn't gonna do any 'Con-level wheelin anyways.

AND, I have an update on the MAF flip kit. Problems! Look for a post soon.

I have a 4" M-A-F "Safari" lift on my 71 '40.

The front flexes GREAT, But I HATE the rear flex...

I started a thread a while back on this same subject...

Rear Spring Flex (or lack thereof) with SUA - pics

Please read the original post again and give your first hand experience - with pictures if possible. Decisions need to be made soon.

Hoping for experience with the Man-A-Fre U-Bolt Flip Kit - Anyone?

If considering longer springs, how much longer for the front and for the rear for best shackle angle?

Thanks again

Almost forgot: Got my F-250 shock towers yesterday at the dealership for $28. All grade8 hardware was another $12. That part is checked off my list!

I have the Man-A-fre U-bolt Flip Kit by 4-Plus and like it a a lot. Extremely Stout and well thought out. I see were Mark had some issues with it and will be curious to see what they are. My only real issue was no instructions on the install but I called them and was straightened out in a matter of minutes.

I have the 4+ Flip Kit too... I like them. They are very stout I think 5/8" thick material! I have had to re-torque the front ones twice... I think they are OK now (that's in a couple months of occasional driving and wheeling). Not sure of a problem with the rears, I ordered mine with the rear shock pin attached (I have a 71 and the shocks would have BARELY fit on the stock pins otherwise).

I used the 4+ flip kit and liked it. I had the rear plates with the shock mounts which I did manage to bend and scrape a little. My SUA rear used a 4 inch lift 55 spring with a 3 inch longer than stock shackle all mounted in the stock hangers. The angle worked very well and the springs flexed great. The angle made the lift something less than 4 inches which became an issue matching the front ride height.

Cruiseralive,

How much longer is a 55 4 inch lift spring than a 40 4 in lift spring? If I understand you right, the longer 55 springs are not holding their lift? I'm considering a longer rear spring, but I'm not sure how much longer it should be. Any ideas??
