2F serial number info...

If you have an original 2F in your 40 or 55, please post up your engine serial number, and the month/year of your truck build and the vin if you would. I am trying to complie 2F year data.

I will be posting this up in the 60 section as well.

Thank you for your help!

-Steve

Here's min, Steve. According to Jim C it was cast on 12-18 of '76. If'n you want the serial # you can have that, too. Here it is: 2F 138687

Ed

Uh Oh, I fawked up....not an orginal motor. Well, original, but not to my truck.

The engine serial number is stamped into the block on a little flat area right by the starter motor....

My 2F is a '79 and up, but it has no serial number on the block. It hasn't been ground off, like a midnight auto parts job. Never been stamped with a serial. What's up with that? Replacement engine?

October '76 FJ40
2F119577 Engine Serial Number
FJ40233589 VIN, matches frame number

I would be surprised if the engine's been switched, but I don't know for certain.

Yes, a service replacement block.
Lucky dog, you got a brand new engine from Toyota somewhere along the line.

Poser,
The engine date is cast on the driver's side of the block. See Degnol's post for a pic and de-coding. With Toyota's JIT production, the engine cast date (and carb date, t-case date, and R&P date...) never varies by more than a few days from vehicle build date.

The date is also cast on top of the cylinder head, easier to see on a fully dressed engine. But heads can be swapped from engine to engine, so...

OK, somebody out there has to have something close to this. I'm told it's a 1981, 2F 528558. Does that look about right, I couldn't find anything close in the post or on the SOR site.

Engine ID number

Specter Off Road has some of this data in their Support - FAQ section.
They have some info on engine number on F engines 1969-1974, and early 2F engines 1975-1978

http://www.sor.com/2fengine.html

Here are my 2 Trucks info:

FJ60-USA (door jam plate says April 1984)
Original engine block number = 2F 822650

FJ60-USA (door jam plate says November 1983) It is titled as a 1984 because of the vin #. I think this is because the production date is late in the year.
NOT original engine block number = 2F 529999

I think this is a great database you are putting together. If possible when you are done could you send me a copy and put it here somewhere permanent.

IF you have a lead I would like to know the year of my replacement engine.

Good luck.
