Believe I have a 9/76 build. No plates anywhere, but
Frame VIN# FJ40-232040
Engine# 2F-114720
The engine has a huge hole in the block though, so have another engine I am trying to figure out where it came from. VIN 2F-534254. Maybe an early model FJ60. Anyone?
Thanks,
Mark

1972 with a 2F motor - serial # question
Forum is great, I plan on absorbing all info I can possibly handle so I can bore non-FJ owners at every opportunity. This is my first post so hopefully I don't make a grave rookie error . If I did, please let me know what it was so I can toe the line.
Here goes: 1972 FJ40-137491, frame and plate at drivers side door match. Motor is immaculate, block has glossy black paint, eat off valve cover, etc. No smoke, starts every time w/o any choke. It is a 2F which I know makes it right off the bat not the original motor. The serial says 2F-877067 and from everything I am reading in these threads, no one's serial even approaches this high of a number.
What's the deal? Counterfeit Chinese motor? Candid camera gag? If it helps, drivers side number on block is 61014 which I believe means the motor was produced October 14th, 1976.
Appreciate the help, especially to a South Floridian

The 61014 is the casting number or part number of the block. Date code is on drivers side, near the back.
61014 is the late 2F block.
FWIW, there is a block sitting here w/ casting date of Jan. 87, serial number is 877125.
Too bad this one has a rod sticking out the side.

Right ok, so it's a replacement block that explains the appearance of it. Much respect to you guys, I'll keep reading up and learning. Still green here, but you may want to have that rod sticking out of your block checked by the experts at the local Jiffy Lube

JiffyLube says it ain't their fault. It wasn't like that when they worked on it.

Saudi Beasts
Here's the poop on 4 of the 5 J40's in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
1975: 2F004501 / FJ40192817
1983: 2F677787 / FJ40359351
1984: 2F820370 / FJ40369092
1984: 2F821780 / FJ40316925
I used to own the 1975 - it had probably 1 of the last 3 speed trannys.
I own the 1983 and 1984 in the middle.
Saudi Arabia is Land Cruiser capitol of planet earth.
There's 1 other 1978 running around Dhahran.

OK, I really don't understand this one. My VIN is: FJ40293557.
The only thing I found on the block is:
"jap toyo emblem"
11411
61011
Anyone know what that means???
Is this an original block?
Sorry...

That means the engine block is part number 11411-61011.
61010 is the first 2F.
61011 is the first revision w/ the OPSU moved to the RH side.
Probably a 76-78 engine.

The production month is on the VIN tag located in the driver's door jamb.
The casting date of the engine block is on the left side of the block.
