I can't post a picture until next week, but I have one or so packed away for my 73. I don't keep them on the back of the vehicle since someone broke the lens on one while sitting in my driveway. I picked one up off of Ebay a while back, was listed as a fog light.

I just reread your post did you want any early backup light or the 73's which were larger then the 68-72 ones?

Reason for thread was I have a 02/73 40 series in the shop right now that has what looks like a fog/spot lamp that is significantly larger than what was posted up in this thread...It is a Toyota piece, seems to use a similar mounting gasket to the body as the smaller one, but is the size of a large rectangle fog lamp.

I know, I know, worthless without pics....

I am a tard when it comes to the 'puter..

Check the tread on Ground Up's restro. That is what was on my 73 and on one I picked up off a 73 in a junk yard years ago. Since you can no longer get the larger one and they are easier to break since they stick out, as for the ones you parted out it wouldn't surpise me if they were replaced with what they could find. The opening in the tub is the same.

I have one like that on my 9/72 also. I I thought it was aftermarket. Still in pretty good shape.

So did all the 73s have the tie down loops on the back corners? Even the hard tops? Seems most of the ones I picked up in junk yards were from 72s and 73s. How about the blower motor switches, only year they were marked front and rear. That's a big help for us old guys who can't remember which is which. There is a few things on the 73s that were a one year only. On the dash is there a light on the right side of the glove box? Seems I seen this on both hard and soft tops.

Tail/brake/ turn/ backup lights were the same as the later models. Three lenses glued together mounted on the rear crossmember.

John, IIRC that light on the side of the glovebox was standard issues for several years of soft top model, but only 1971 in the hardtop model. I also think IIRC that those footman loops were standard issue on both 73 and 74 models.

So my 2/71 with the light on the side of the glove box could have originally been a hard or soft top? The PO MAY have removed the footman loops as I do not have them. I also have the drop down tail gate. What other clues tell me what top it had from the factory?
