| Window felt I need some advice on removal and installation of the window felt. 1980 FJ40 hard top. All new OEM stuff going on the doors.
Tnx
According to the Toy Tech guy, I'm suppose to use the following part numbers:
68180-90300 outside felt strip
68160-90300 inside felt strip
the production date on my FJ40 is Nov 1979; which, according to toytech is really a 1980 model. The parts cut off date is around jun1979; which makes some parts and numbers a little tricky to figure out.
I'm wondering if I need to remove the glass; which if I do - I will be pissed because I just installed all new Toy glass a few day ago and cleaned, greased, new seals and rust proofed inside of doors.
These weatherStip felts look similar to the CCOT stuff:

| It is just held in there with some barb-type deals, so you can just pry it out. I used a small piece of luan underlayment (1/4" thick) in the channel and a non-maring rubber mallet to install the new stuff. I would spray the channel down inside the felt(where the glass goes) with some silicone, because the first "roll up" I did was tight. Now I did this on early doors. Yours is probably one piece if later doors, so just start at one end and work your way around.

| Kinda' hard to tell what channel Larry is putting in in the tech link, but if you have anything other than the OEM late model style channel to put in, with no chrome (or stainless), do yourself a favor by returning it to the store and getting the all rubber with felt inside type that came in later model FJ40s. It's WAY better than the earlier type and holds the window securely from rattling while also doing good sealing. Easier to install too.

The question is raised by a person with a 1980 FJ40.

A quick look makes me think that it's not long enough for the earliest doors but in any case it wouldn't need cutting, it just wouldn't circumvent the vent
