What guage steel is orginal body?

Did a search, some folks said 18 guage. Some said thay Toyota changed guage sometime near 1978.

I have a 1978 FJ-40. I want to buy some sheet metal for welding in patches (cowl, bib, windshield frame mainly) and just want to know what guage to get.

I'd just go with 18 guage, even if your Cruiser has different guage sheetmetal, it won't be enough to cause any problems.

I thought the switch to a thinner gauge wasn't until 78 or 79 too.
