Trying to locate the ignition wire to tap into it for the electric fan. How do I distinguish which one I want to tap into???

If this is on your 1976 FJ40, you'll find two male spade fittings on the fuse block. One of these is switched power, and the other is fixed power. You can tap in here.

The wire will be fuse protected, depending on which side of the fuse you tap into. You want to tap the side AFTER the fuse in case something shorts out.

For future reference, you can also use the lower terminal on the ballast resistor for the ignition coil.
